My story

[p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]I always dreamed of running the marathon by the time I hit 18, having loved longer distance running from about the age of 8. I didn’t realise then how not ready I would be for a marathon at 18 and admittedly my health would not have allowed it as I was still undergoing a battle with anorexia. [/p][p]But some hard dedication to recovery has brought me here and finally I can do the marathon for an amazing charity. After going through my own mental health struggles many know I’m passionate about speaking out and raising money for mental health charities and APP is a brilliant one to be supporting, helping women with postpartum psychosis. As a student midwife I identify even further with this charity and I think it’s so key for women to get the support they need with perinatal mental health issues as soon as possible so charities like this are essential and I’m proud to be running for them. [/p][p][br][/p][p]If you are able please support! I’ve placed by target at £500 but it would be amazing to beat the amount I raised with my first half marathon of £1225 ! [/p][p][br][/p][p]INFO ON APP:[/p][p]Action on Postpartum Psychosis is the national charity for women and families affected by Postpartum Psychosis (PP). PP is a severe mental illness which begins suddenly following childbirth. Symptoms include hallucinations and delusions, often with mania, depression or confusion. Over 1400 women experience PP each year in the UK (1 to 2 in every 1000 mothers). An episode of PP can be very frightening for women and their families. Most women go on to make a full recovery, however the journey to full recovery can be long and difficult.[/p][p]£1,000 funds a new print run of our patient information Insider Guides to send to people affected by PP and health professionals around the country[/p][p]£3,000 trains six new Peer Support Volunteers meaning we can help and support more women and families affected by PP[/p][p]£4,000 runs our Peer Support Service safely and effectively for one month[/p][p]200 regular donors giving £20 a month covers the cost of providing our Peer Support Service now and in the future[/p][p][br][/p][p]Thank you [/p]
