Team story

[p]We are fortunate to have an NHS. For many people, access to a Doctor is almost impossible. The Virtual Doctors charity has a created a solution using an app to provide a virtual doctor. These Virtual Doctors are volunteer Doctors (mostly UK based) who give expert medical advice in over 20 specialised areas of medicine via this app to isolated healthcare workers in Africa.[/p][p]Clinic Twinning is a scheme operated by the Virtual Doctors which twins GP surgeries in the UK with a clinic in Zambia or Malawi to fund the provision of the Virtual Doctors service.[/p][p][img][/img][/p][p]This photo shows Francis. He works in Chanyanya Rural Health Centre. By raising £1500, the Springfield Surgery can twin with a clinic like Francis’.[/p][p]Clinic twinning gives Francis access to the Virtual Doctors service over the next 3 years, helping him provide better care for his patients, delivered locally. He will also receive regular educational podcasts enabling him to be proficient in the most up-to-date medicine. This helps him become part of a self-sufficient healthcare workforce for the future.[/p][p]Dr Gazeley has volunteered with the charity for the last couple of years. He has seen the impact the service has had: helping save lives and support healthcare workers doing a challenging job in isolated areas. He is passionate about how this simple technology can change lives for the better.[/p][p][br][/p][p]For more information please see:[/p][p]https://www.virtualdoctors.org/clinictwinning/[/p][p][br][/p][p]Statistics:[/p][p]· 98 Doctor volunteers from UK, Denmark and Zambia[/p][p]· Over 2,000 cases answered[/p][p]· The advice improved patient’s symptoms in 90% of cases[/p][p]· Prevented 76% of referrals allowing the patients to be treated and cared for in their community[/p][p]· 96% of the advice was deemed to be educational by the healthcare worker[/p]
