My story

[p]EDIT; I am now running the Virtual London Marathon on 4th October 2020.[/p][p]I have also increased my target from £500 to £1,500. I am overwhelmed that so many people have supported me so I hope more kind donations will allow me to smash this target as well![/p][p][br][/p][p]Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my fundraising page and read my story.[/p][p]As some of you know this is the first Marathon I have ever attempted although it has always been on my bucket list.... even as a non-runner! I was fortunate enough to win a ballot place from the bequest draw and began my training early January 2020. [/p][p]I was so disappointed to hear the news that the race was being postponed; although completely understandable, but I am not letting the efforts and hours of running go to waste. I have continued to train and have every intention of completing the 26.2 miles on 4th October (the rescheduled date). [/p][p]It has however, allowed me the time to really reflect on why I am running. As a 5 year old child I lost my dad to Leukaemia and have quietly grieved every day since. It has been even more apparent since having my own family and the constant feelings and questions like "what if...." only ever increases. Over the years I have also sadly had to say goodbye to other influential and significant people in my life and again, not really knowing where to turn or how to emotionally recover, I have just continued without seeking help. There was not the abundance of Charities offering support when I was a child growing up as there are now so we just continued with life. [/p][p]My life then changed significantly back in 2014 when we found out we were pregnant with our 3 child, or should I say twin girls. Following a traumatic pregnancy, we lost one of our daughters. To finish pregnancy and give birth to my two babies but only able to take one daughter home was devastating. 1st September 2014 we welcomed Charlotte Grace to the world and said goodnight to Eva Grace.[/p][p]The last 5 years have been difficult and challenging and my mental health has suffered drastically. Losing a child is just the most awful experience and leaves such debilitating emotions. There have been extremely dark days and days where I thought things would never get better. But very slowly they do.[/p][p]With the love and support of family and friends and the determination to get my life back, I take one day at a time and now feel grateful, happy and well. I took up running and yoga which have been incredible for my physical and mental health and began reading about trauma and the impact that grief has on someone.[/p][p]This is where my support comes in for Child Bereavement UK and the incredible work they do. Being a bereaved child, a mother grieving a child and also a mother supporting children who have grieved a sibling, Child Bereavement UK has support and services accessible to anyone. It may be many years on for me but their help has allowed me to understand more about my childhood and why I may feel the way I do and it has given me resources to help with our loss of Eva. [/p][p]There are many, many people who have suffered or been affected by grief and by donating to charities like this, they can continue to support more and more families in the UK. If you are able to donate, however big or small, your contribution will be gratefully received and will make a huge difference.[/p][p]Thank you so very much and I appreciate everyones words of encouragement and kindness..... wish me luck!! [/p][p][br][/p]
