My story

[p]The NHS has faced one of its biggest challenges - the Covid-19 Pandemic. Extraordinary skills and efforts were demonstrated by NHS staff. Staff commitment, flexibility, skill, and resilience have been exemplary.[/p][p]I myself was supported by the NHS as a child and I am running the London Marathon this year to help raise funds for a NHS Charity.[/p][p]When I was seven I underwent successful NHS surgery to correct a squint in my right eye at the old Royal East Sussex Hospital in Hastings. I am hoping to raise £2,500 for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Charitable Fund and I'm the recipient of the Fund’s only charity place in the event in October.[/p][p]Myself, my immediate family, and my friends and relatives have been lucky enough to benefit from the NHS and its varied services over many years so running 26.2 miles is a great way for me to give something back to this amazing organisation. The London Marathon is such an iconic event and running for our MTW Charity is a great opportunity for me to help make a difference to our patient experience.[/p][p]Spurring me on will also be my memories of my late younger sister, Lucy Crouch. Lucy was a former Accident and Emergency (A&E) nurse at the Conquest Hospital who tragically died aged just 33 in 2003 following a long battle with ulcerative colitis.[/p][p]Lucy’s passing made me realise how short life is and her battle with UC inspired me to run the New York City Marathon in 2005 followed by the London Marathon's in 2006 and 2007. I’m sure she’ll be looking down on me again thinking how crazy I must be.[/p][p]I work for the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust as a Systems Manager at Maidstone Hospital.[/p][p]The Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Charitable Fund is one of more than 250 NHS charities providing £1 million a day across the UK to support the patient experience.[/p][p]For more information on the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Charitable Fund please contact Laura Kennedy email laura.kennedy8@nhs.net or telephone 01622 226428.[/p]
