My story

[p]Tom was a truly inspirational young man, particularly so during his battle with cancer, but who sadly passed away on Boxing Day at the age of 19.[/p][p]He has inspired me to stop talking about doing things and just get on and do it! As I had already decided to find a new form of exercise that I might actually enjoy, I decided to order a new bike. I haven't ridden a proper road bike for 30 years, so I know I am going to have to put in some work, and succumb to wearing the lycra. Before it arrived, I was asked by a friend to join a group of fellow cyclists in doing a 4-day, 300 mile charity bike ride from London to Paris. 75% of the money raised will be donated to Bone Cancer Research Trust, and 25% to Kamrans Ward (Oxford Hospitals Charity Ward 0088) which do such a fantastic job treating and caring for children with cancer. [/p][p]My friend Dan said it would quickly get me up to speed and give me a challenge - needless to say as I write this, I'm feeling slightly apprehensive, especially as the bike hasn't even arrived yet. So a group of 10 of us, including Tom's Dad (who like me is unfit and hasn't ridden a bike for years), will be taking on the challenge from the 6th to the 10th June 2018. The ride will take us through the Kent countryside to Dover, before crossing the Channel to Calais. Our route takes us along French country lanes, through traditional market towns, finishing up at the Eiffel Tower. [/p][p]Please visit Tom's page using the 'In Loving Memory of Tom Stead' link above and please donate as generously as you can to these two deserving charities.[/p]
