My story

[p]Having retired in Sept 2018 after a 40 year career in banking I am now looking to undertake my greatest challenge. Sporting challenges, sometimes extreme, have always been a feature of my life but my next venture will see me setting off this April to cycle around the world which for me will be a journey in to the unknown.[/p][p]I should say that I am not possessed of any natural sporting talent and coming as this does in my 60th year this is just a case of an ordinary person trying to achieve an extraordinary feat. [/p][p]I will be undertaking the cycle on my own although I will have some support through parts of Australia and the United States. The intention is average a little over 100 miles per day for 6 months.[/p][p]The Guinness World Records set just 3 rules to qualify as a circumnavigation. Firstly, you must cover a minimum distance by bike of 18,000 miles, secondly you must travel in an easterly or westerly direction, wherever possible, and finally you must pass through two points diametrically opposed which in my case will be Madrid, Spain and Wellington, New Zealand. [/p][p]I will be crossing 4 continents and cycling through 22 countries including Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekhistan, and China.[/p][p]Without sounding too altruistic it is also an opportunity for me to give something back for what I believe is a blessed career and life. In that regard I am looking to raise as much money as possible for two charities. Cancer Research UK which is the largest charity in the world supporting research in to the many forms of this terrible disease. The second is the Exeter Foundation which is an umbrella charity that raises funds for worthy causes in the greater Exeter area. [/p][p]I have no idea how this challenge will unfold but if you would like to follow my journey then I have a FB page (Banker on a Bike) and a blog (https://bankeronabike.blogspot.com/). Please help me raise as much money as possible by 'liking' or sharing'.[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page. The money I raise will help fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured and support community projects in the greater Exeter area.[/p]
