My story

[p]0630 Hrs Monday 28th June - JUMP POSTPONED AGAIN DUE TO LOW CLOUD COVER! [/p][p]MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ON 15TH JULY 2021! SEE UPDATE AND PHOTOS BELOW[/p][p]THE APPEAL - on behalf of -[/p][p]MY TIME Young Carers and [/p][p]The Dorset Children's Foundation [/p][p]Charities all over the country have suffered severe short-falls9 in donations during the COVID 19 pandemic, none more so than these two outstanding local children’s charities here in Dorset:[/p][p]Both require urgent financial help to continue their marvellous work on behalf of deserving local children and young people.[/p][p]This charity event is due to take place approximately 8-9 am on Monday 21st June 2021 at Old Sarem in Wiltshire. If, due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances it is delayed, the jump will take place when conditions allow and a picture will be published in due course.[/p][p]The Jumper[/p][p]My name is Steve Maidment. I am a 76 year old retired policeman living in Dorset. Some months ago I listened to talks given by the two local children’s charities on whose behalf I am now appealing. Having three grandchildren of my own I was both moved and impressed by the work the charities are engaged in, and of the worthiness of an appeal for more funding on their behalf. I feel the urge to do something positive to help them to overcome their current funding shortages over the past difficult twelve months.[/p][p]I am hoping that that the appeal will go, if only in a small way, towards enabling these two great charities to continue their wonderful work. I feel sure that when people are made aware of the extent and variety of their fantastic commitment to children, they too will want to help these two organisations by making a donation.[/p][p]The Charities[/p][p]My Time Young Young Carers (www.mytimeyoungcarers.org)[/p][p]Charity number 297481[/p][p]A young carer is someone aged between 5 and 18 who helps to look after another person, usually a parent or sibling with a disability, illness, mental health condition or drug or alcohol problem. [/p][p]Through its Memory-Making and R & R Retreat Programmes the Bournemouth-based MY TIME Young Carers charity provides fun and enriching activity days, weekend retreats and an online youth group for young carers. Its aim is to create vital opportunities for young carers to build support, self-confidence and form friendships that will last a lifetime.[/p][p]£25 pays for one young carer to attend a Making Memories day out[/p][p]£150 pays for one young carer to attend a weekend retreat[/p][p]£250 pays for ten young carers to attend a memory-making day[/p][p]Dorset Children’s Foundation (info@thedfc.org) [/p][p]Charity number 1150538[/p][p] The Dorset Children's Foundation (The DCF) was set up in 2013 to improve the lives of local children with disabilities. Since then they have raised over £1,000,000 for over 200 local children, Specialist Schools, Children’s Centres and Stay & Play Disability Groups.[/p][p] The DCF is a small, independent charity and funds medical expenses, mobility equipment and therapies not covered by Statutory Services. They also grant life enriching experiences, to create special memories that last longer than a lifetime.[/p][p]The DCF run a range of inclusive events for disabled children and their families, called Accessible for All, such as family fun days, craft afternoons, all ability discos, soft play and sensory sessions, music therapy, swimming, cricket and yoga to name but a few and have also set up their very own FA affiliated Football Team DCF FC![/p][p]The DCF want to provide the opportunity for the families they support to get together in a safe and inclusive environment where disabled children can just be kids without judgement or disapproval. Siblings and parents are encouraged to get involved so the whole family can get out and enjoy being amongst friends.[/p][p]Any money donated for this event would help to fund these events and provide opportunities for disabled children that they currently may not have access to.[/p][p] We are grateful for any donation, here’s what your money could buy:[/p][p] £50 a music and dance session for 15 children[/p][p]£75 would buy a swimming session for ten children complete with life guard[/p][p]£100 2 hour session for 10 children at indoor skate park[/p][p]£150 a 2 hour interactive bubble session[/p][p]£550 a 1 to 1 yoga and rebound (trampolining) session for 8 children at a local specialist school. Not only would the children have a fabulous time but the parents could get a couple of hours to themselves[/p][p]As always, 100% of every donation will go directly to the cause, in this case supporting an event as The DCF charity shops in Bournemouth, cover the charity’s modest overheads so every single penny donated goes directly to the children.[/p][p]The Dorset Children’s Foundation – big enough to make a difference, small enough to care.[/p][p]Please help by making a donation[/p][p]Life for everyone has been difficult and depressing over the past twelve months due to the imposition of the government’s Covid 19 movement restrictions. It doesn’t take much imagination to appreciate just how much harder life has been for these particular groups of children and young people, and their families.[/p][p]Clearly, the two charities deserve to be adequately funded if they are to continue providing their superb services. [/p][p] Affirmation [/p][p] Every penny raised on this appeal will be shared equally between the two charities. No monies will be deducted for costs or expenses incurred in making the jump, or for any other reason.[/p][p]Please give generously……..and thank you![/p][p]Steve Maidment[/p][p]UPDATES [/p][p](i) 11th May. I have sent ‘thank you’ emails to all of the donors I have been able to trace, but this seems inadequate for all the kindness and generosity the appeal has received from so many people to date. To all of you I wish to express my sincere thanks and gratitude. Your overwhelming generosity has ensured that the two charities will indeed now be able to directly help the deserving children and young people they serve so well. Thank you so much.[/p][p](ii) sincere thanks go to all at Flights Petanque Club for their £50 donation by cheque. Cheers guys. You’re great. Steve[/p][p](iii) thanks to Chris and Roger Pearce their £20 donation by cheque. Hope the golf is going well. Many thanks. Steve[/p][p](iv) I wish to send my sincere thanks to all donors for their kind and generous donations. I have managed to send ‘thank you’ messages to most of you but I have not been able to trace some, so to those I say thank you so much. You may be assured that donations will be put to good use. Steve[/p][p](v) 22nd May. Well, the appeal has risen to £2.200+ and is well on the way to reaching the revised target of £2,500, and I am so very grateful for the generosity and support from you all. As the fateful day approaches so my nervous twitching increases, but I am really looking forward to raising as much as possible for my two charities. Thanks again. Steve[/p][p]27th May. Sincere thanks to Annette and Nellie for their kind donation of £35 by cheque. Very much appreciated. Steve[/p][p]7th June. The donations have dropped off a bit now but the total is still terrific, especially bearing in mind the first target was £1000. As the big day approaches I confess to be getting a l-l-little [/p][p]b-b-b bit n-ervous. However, it will be an entirely new experience and through your kind donations it will have contributed significantly to the funding available to our two lovely charities.[/p][p]If donations keep coming the target will be raised again. We can never have too much![/p][p]Best wishes to you all.[/p][p]19th June. Well, we’ve cracked our target now with just two days to go before the big day. I have just seen the weather forecast for Monday and it’s not looking too promising. Rain is forecast bit hopefully this will change so that the jump can take place. If it is postponed I will update the site with the new date. [/p][p]I have just received more donations so the target has been upped to £3000.00. Thanks to you all. [/p][p]One donor has given the name Bob. Whichever Bob you are Bob, thanks you kindly. I am very grateful.[/p][p]I have just received an anonymous donation of £100. Whoever you are I thank you for this kind and extremely generous donation.[/p][p]I have also received another donation, from Richard Sloman. Rich, I don’t have your email address but my sincere thanks goes to you too. It is very much appreciated. My sincere thanks.[/p][p]My thanks to Marilyn. It’s unbelievable![/p][p]Good to hear from Bertie Backhouse. Thanks a lot for your support. Stay well Bertie. See you at the Xmas do I hope.[/p][p]To David Harfitt and Sue Davies I send my thanks for their generous donations. It will now take place on MONDAY 28TH JUNE 2021. Sad delay….but more time to seek more donations eh?![/p][p]21st June. Should have been up there today.oh well, we’ll try again next Monday.
