My story

[p]Thanks for visiting my page. I do hope you will be happy to sponsor me.[/p][p]I turned 70 early this year and I decided (madly?) to run a couple of marathons - and more - to raise money for two excellent kidney research charities, as both our sons have had kidney failure. I donated a kidney to Joel in 1999 after he became critically ill. Later our other son Oliver suffered kidney failure and he received a kidney from an anonymous donor in 2002. Both operations took place at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. My two brilliant charities are Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) and Kidney Research UK.[/p][p]The Addenbrooke’s project is looking at ways to prevent some donated kidneys being rejected by recipients after transplant. And Kidney Research UK undergo research into Alport Syndrome in the hope of preventing the onset of this type of hereditary kidney disease. Both our sons suffered from Alport Syndrome and even though they have both had successful kidney transplants they still suffer some of the Alport side effects, such as hearing and eye problems. (Photo below shows me with Oliver, left, and Joel.)[/p][p]My key events for the year are all completed now. So what have I done? For 2018 I adopted a SEVEN theme at 70. My 7 key events included running the Edinburgh Marathon on 27th May (completed in 4hrs 27min 8 secs) and the Amsterdam Marathon on 21st October (completed in 4h 20m 27s). Plus, the Norwich Half Marathon on 15th April (completed in 2h 4m 36s), the King’s Lynn GEAR 10K on 6th May (completed in 55m 47s), the Marham 10K on 8th July (completed in 55m 14s), the Bedford Half Marathon on 2nd September (completed in 2h 0m 10s) and the Sandringham 10K on 23rd September (completed in 52m 51s).[/p][p]I aimed to run at least seven 5K parkruns (18 completed so far) throughout the year. And I expected to tot up at least 700 kilometres, 431 miles (over 800K completed so far), during 2018, made up of the above events and training runs.[/p][p]I hope you can support me. As you can see I have topped my fundraising target but any further contributions to these charities will be most welcome and very much appreciated. [/p][p]Thank you for all your support.[/p][p]Stewart South[/p]
