Team story

[p]Help us raise £1000 for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation and 40Tude in support of Doddie Weir and Tom Smith, Scotland and Lions rugby greats.[/p][p]Several of the Strive cycling team from 2018 are getting on their bikes again to join the Wounded Lions 500 cycle challenge, https://woundedlions500.co.uk/[/p][p]Willie Tulloch, Garry Coltherd and Leon De Jager will be joining Rob Wainright, former Scotland captain and British & Irish Lions player, and the rest of his team in delivering the match ball for the Calcutta Cup game between Scotland and England at Murrayfield on 8th February. Rob and the team will be setting off from Twickenham on the 6th February and will cycle the 500 miles to Murrayfield in 48hrs. The 3 strapping lads from Orkney will join the challenge at Newcastle Falcons ground, setting off at 4:30am in the morning to cycle the final 100miles to deliver the ball to the home of Scottish rugby.[/p][p]We are undertaking the challenge in support of two former Scotland and Lions team mates of Rob's who are facing health challenges at this time. [/p][p]Firstly, Doddie Weir, who set up the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to find a cure for and support sufferers and their families in the fight against MND. In 2018 Strive raised £85,000 for the foundation by organising a 5 day cycle, veteran rugby tournament and ball. To date the efforts of Doddie and the supporters of the foundation have raised over £5m in little over 2 years. This has played a major part in the recent news of a breakthrough in the search for a cure with a large scale drugs trial now being undertaken in Scotland, which Doddie will be a part of. [/p][p]Another close friend and Scotland colleague of Doddie, Tom Smith has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon Cancer. Tom has done a tremendous amount to support Doddie in his challenge with MND and travelled from his home in the south of France to play in a Penguin’s team including a number of ex-Scotland players at the Strive Veterans rugby tournament we held in Stonehaven[/p][p]The money raised from our efforts will be shared equally between the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, Tom's cancer charity of choice, 40Tude.[/p][p]We are aiming to raise £5 for every mile so £1000 in total, however, I’m sure with your help in sharing the details of this challenge we hope to do a little better than that.[/p][p]All donations are greatly appreciate by us all.[/p]
