Team story

[p]#StrutYourSongs celebrates the healing power of music in hard times whilst raising awareness of the devastation of miscarriage and funds for the Miscarriage Association. [/p][p]Participants run, walk, cycle or even swim for as long as it takes to listen to their favourite music playlist - literally strutting their songs! [/p][p]This year our team is again raising funds to support the staffing costs of the Miscarriage Association’s helpline. You can read more about the story behind #StrutYourSongs below, but first of all, here’s how it all works and how you can join in and help:[/p][p]1. Donate[/p][p]We are aiming to raise £7,667 to fund the costs of staffing the Miscarriage Association's helpline for a month. Every donation to our campaign will go towards funding the helpline. The helpline is at the heart of all the charity does and brings much needed advice and comfort to those grappling with the trauma of pregnancy loss.[/p][p]2. Join In[/p][p]All are welcome to join us at the main run/walk/cycle on Saturday 27 July 2019 in the countryside near Harewood House in Yorkshire, U.K. If you’re not in Yorkshire, you can join in wherever you are in the world and do some strutting of your own. Your own challenge can be as long or as short as you wish - so choose your playlist with care![/p][p]Whether you are running with us or elsewhere, please visit https://vicky633.typeform.com/to/MDmjPR for more details and to register to take part.[/p][p]3. Spread The Word[/p][p]Whether you are taking part with us in Harewood or further afield please help us to spread the word by sharing a photo of yourself doing your own challenge (or a screenshot of your playlist) and by posting it on your preferred social media (Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook). Please use the hashtag #StrutYourSongs and don't forget to tag us - @vickytreherne on Twitter and vicky_treherne on Instagram.[/p][p]And finally, a bit about the story behind #StrutYourSongs....[/p][p]In 2016 my husband, Matthew and I suffered our third miscarriage in two years. Reeling and shocked, and finding it very difficult to express the grief and pain we were feeling, we looked for some easy ways to distract ourselves. That’s when we discovered the TV series Nashville.[/p][p]But Nashville is more than just a TV show. If you know it, you’ll know that it’s the music which makes it special – music often takes the place of dialogue between characters. I suppose for me especially, that music became a way for me to have a dialogue with my own pain.[/p][p]Through Nashville, I discovered a whole new genre of music and a whole new group of performers and songwriters. I discovered that the man behind my favourite character, Deacon Claybourne – aka Charles (Chip) Esten – was releasing a new song every single Friday.[/p][p]While I grappled with symptoms of PTSD and the aftermath of our three miscarriages, those records helped carry me through. I was struggling to see clearly towards our future, but in the midst of difficult times, there was the simple fun and enjoyment of looking forward to Friday and a new Chip Esten Song.[/p][p]“it might be a song you sing….it might be a long walk or a phone call with a long lost friend…you just do what you gotta do, to get you through the blue”[/p][p]Charles Esten “Through the Blue”[/p][p]I began to understand just how much we had been damaged by our experience, and I realised at the same time that I wanted to speak out about what had happened to us, and to do something to raise awareness of miscarriage and the pain and devastation it wreaks. I decided to set myself the challenge of running for as long as it took to listen to my #EverySingleFriday playlist and to ask people to sponsor me to support the amazing work of the Miscarriage Association.[/p][p]...the rest, as they say, is history! After two successful campaigns, raising almost £20,000 and involving hundreds of people all over the world who have strutted, donated and supported us - including Chip Esten himself - #StrutYourSongs is now in its third year. [/p][p]Together our supporters have helped us to spread togetherness, light and music, breaking the silence surrounding miscarriage. [/p][p]Please join us in 2019 to #StrutYourSongs![/p]
