My story

[p]Once again I will be volunteering with Crisis At Christmas - or Crisis This Christmas as it has been branded. This will be my 22nd year of volunteering![/p][p]Sadly, Crisis is still needed and needed more than ever in this strange year. Homelessness is a terrible experience at any time but in the pandemic the impact on people who find themselves homeless has been devastating. Many of the services which offered them help were forced to shut*, many of the places they relied on to get food were shut. We even heard stories of people suffering from dehydration because they had no way of accessing clean water.[/p][p]The "Everybody In" campaign was successful initially in getting large numbers of people into places of safety but sadly when the initial funding ended some councils stopped providing accommodation. What was worse was that a new wave of people who worked in the hospitality industry or had jobs in the gig economy found themselves homeless as furlough schemes came to an end or businesses closed down.[/p][p]Crisis At Christmas will once again be making a massive contribution to supporting people this Christmas, although it will be very different to our usual offering. We'll be providing accommodation in hotels for hundreds of homeless people from 22nd December until 4th January, and offering them three meals a day, access to medical services (within Covid-safe limits), advice, entertainment and - most important of all - companionship.[/p][p]Your donation will help to support all of that - so please dig deep![/p][p]*I'm provide to say that Crisis continued to deliver its services throughout both lockdowns[/p]
