My story

[p]Hello everybody[/p][p]My name is Stuart and i will be running the London Marathon 2020 raising funds for the charity AFASIC.[/p][p]AFASIC is the UK charity that helps children, and young people affected by speech, language, and communication disabilities, working for their inclusion in society, as well as supporting their parents and carers. Across the UK, there is over 1 million children affected by this hidden, but very real disability.[/p][p]AFASIC provides a unique range of information, help and support for these children, young people, and their families. This includes a parent's helpline, website, a range of publications, training workshops, and conferences. AFASIC works directly with the children, and young people to improve their communication, as well as social and life skills giving them the opportunity to reach their true potential.[/p][p]In addition, i will also be running the event for my son Harry. Harry is 6 years old and suffers from DLD. (Developmental Language Disorder). Having DLD means that a child or young person has severe persistent difficulties understanding or using spoken language. [/p][p]DLD is a long term condition that can have a severe impact on a young persons learning achievement at school, and all areas in life. This condition can put them at risk of literacy difficulties, and affect their social interaction skills. Children with DLD usually learn and understand better through visual and practical methods, and this condition can co-occur with ADHD, dyslexia, and speech sound difficulties.[/p][p]I would be grateful for you to sponsor me and achieve my goal to help AFASIC further help children like Harry and others going forward.[/p][p]I am very grateful for all your support, and generosity [/p][p]Stuart Chalmers[/p]
