My story

[p]See May 10 post below![/p][p]Follow your dreams and the fear disappears. Helped hugely by such amazing support and donations. And so much love. Thank You All. I am eternally grateful to all family and friends who came on The Night to support me (and video my effort!). You came from near and far and from my HV life, my time at NT and current colleagues at STH. [/p][p]I have been moved to tears many times by your words and actions. Thank you so very much. From me, and the Evelina (who get 75% of what I raise) and St Thomas’ Hospital (who will get 25%). Btw...there is still time to donate. Please xx[/p][p]4 June Thank you all for your support. Having been at the Evelina & St Thomas’ H today, I decided to raise my target one last time. The year is 2019, my 60th anniversary of becoming a nurse. So a final target of £2019 seems appropriate. Please be a star and help me reach it. ⭐?🙏[/p][p]29 May For those of you who have donated after seeing the post on my daughter's twitter page, a huge thank you. Even though I can't thank you personally, you have made a huge difference to many lives, and touched my heart xx[/p][p]21 May For those of you who’ve been following my story, I thought you might like to know that the ‘adrenalin surge’ doesn’t just enhance the abseil, it lasts for days afterwards! I had so much energy it was uncanny. I might even start writing...about this, that, and a few other bits of life!!! 🙃[/p][p][img][/img][/p][p]My Story[/p][p]I'm terrified of heights, but I started nursing in London 60 years ago and this abseil is my celebration. It is almost on Flo Nightingale's Birthday/International Nurses' Day. Please boost my courage and make it worthwhile by helping me achieve my target (or even go over it, please--it's for a really great cause). [/p][p]I work at the Evelina Children's Hospital supporting families and children going through tough times. I also support patients at St Thomas' Hospital. Two of my grandsons were born at St Thomas' and one at Guy's. My father died at St Thomas' in 1983, the night before I studied bereavement on the Health Visitor course. [/p][p]My aunt trained as a nurse at Guy's just before WWII, then joined the RAF nursing service.[/p][p]All these connections have made me face my fears by abseiling down the 160' front of St Thomas' Hospital on 10 May to raise money for the Guy's & St Thomas' Charity. And especially for the Evelina where I see the care given by so many to help the children who go through so much. I am challenging myself. For all of them.[/p][p]10 May[/p][p]I ‘saw’ you all this evening as I admired the view from the roof of St Thomas’ Hospital, you took my fear away and I had one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Your donations and extraordinarily amazing comments are what made it unforgettable, thank you xxx (but if you’re reading this and haven’t yet felt able to donate, now’s your chance! It’s not too late)[/p][p]9 May —Just one more sleep! Donors’ words and their generous donations are rendering me speechless. (I think they must be talking about somebody else) but I am so grateful and so heartened on behalf of STH and the Evelina that I am nudging my target up just a teeny bit more to £1778. I feel strangely calm because I shall ‘see’ all of your faces giving me strength when I jump off (well, almost) the roof tomorrow. Just in case you don’t know it, I’m adding a pic of St Thomas’ Hospital. I come down the Rt hand front corner, right by the R. Thames[/p][p]8 May and I can’t quite believe i’m due to Do This Abseil the day after tomorrow 😖 but if i’m really honest I am so inspired and uplifted by all of you lovely donors that i’m a tiny bit excited. Those are words I never thought I’d write. If any of you are around St Thomas’ Hospital on Friday at 6pm please come and cheer me down. I’m not a fancy dress person but decided I had to be visible, so i’m wearing a black T-shirt with my initials and age in bright yellow back and front. Oh, and some busy-bee yellow and black leg-warmers. Tricky to take a selfie, so the pic i’ve posted below is the best I can do! If you haven’t donated yet, it would be brilliant if you could get me to my target—or even to £1500 😁TQ And please, please pray for the rain and wind to stop! But I WILL DO IT anyway![/p][p]4 May[/p][p]You know me, I always have to push myself—why else would I be facing my fear of heights in such a mad way?! 😂 But because I believe in the cause I am fundraising for, each time your incredible generosity has taken me near to reaching my target, i’ve raised it. [/p][p]When I decided to do this crazy abseil my target was £378. Now the kindness of friends and people I hardly know has taken it beyond £1000. It moves me so much, and it is to reward your faith in me that will get me over the edge on Friday. [/p][p]And why I have now raised my target to £1478. (Have to keep the 78 in there to remind myself how old I am-- or I forget!)[/p][p]3 May[/p][p]Just a week to go, and St Thomas' north front seems to get higher and higher, but I will do it! Big thanks to all of you for donations and such uplifting messages--all appreciated. So much so that I've raised my target just once more--to a thousand plus my age. Every single one of you will be in my mind's eye next Friday at 6pm when I jump, or creep, over the edge 💓(heart beating very fast!) xx [/p][p]26 April[/p][p]Just TWO weeks to go, and getting a bit scary! Huge thank you to all who have supported me. But if you haven’t done so yet, here’s your opportunity to help me break my new target of £999 and get me over the top and over 1K. The Evelina and GSTT will really benefit. 🙏💕[/p][p]11 April[/p][p]Just four weeks from tomorrow (which happens to be the 'Guy's birth' grandson's 17th birthday) I shall be bouncing down the wall of St Thomas' Hospital! I am so grateful for all your donations. You have helped me pass two of my targets. I am absolutely determined to do this and as I always have to push myself (!) I have now upped my target to £917. Please help me achieve this for St Thomas', and the Evelina Children's Hospital. They will be so grateful. As shall I. Thank you xx To make sure I don’t let you down, I thought I better have a go at climbing up a little wall before I abseil down a big one! See latest pic below.[/p][p]3 Feb.[/p][p]A young friend who runs ultra marathons is encouraging me to do squats! My legs don't know what's hit them. My grandson has warned me it's the 'sitting back' as you go over the top that's the scariest bit! This is turning into quite an adventure already. Thank you so much to those who've donated. I'm jolly well going to make myself enjoy this![/p][p]26 March[/p][p]I am so grateful to all those who have donated. And been so generous that I have passed two of my goals. Today I was told how much the Evelina & G & St T charities help patients that I decided to raise my goal to £780. £10 for every year of my life. Please share my link and help others to help this great cause. I’m also honouring my aunt who did her nurse training at Guy’s and then joined the Princess Mary’s RAF Nursing Service In 1942. I loved her tricorn hat! Here is her pic[/p]

My nanna was a nurse with the Red Cross & she isn’t here any longer thanks to cancer. I think you’re as awesome as my Nan was so even though it’s not much I just wanted to acknowledge your awesomeness. Much love and light x
