My story

[p]Up until a few weeks ago I did not even own a bike. Cycling 140 miles in two days from Chelmsford to Amsterdam is not something I imagined that I would ever do. The furthest I had ever cycled was about 10 miles, that is until a week ago when I struggled to manage 35 miles in a training cycle. I know that taking on this ride is truly a massive personal challenge. But deep down I know that I can do this and I will do it! I have to do it.[/p][p]Why? Because it will enable me (with your help) to raise funds so that Kids Inspire can continue to help the children no one else will help and iin my mind this is a necessity.[/p][p]As the CEO and Clinical Director of Kids Inspire, I listen daily to the tragic stories of children who have had their childhood stolen because of abuse, neglect and trauma, The needs of these children are often complex and require a specialist team approach to make a difference and give the child hope that life can be different, better and that they deserve to feel happy.[/p][p]Kids Inspire do not receive government funding. And in order to help as many children and their families as possible (last year we helped over 5000) we rely on the generosity of individuals, groups and businesses. [/p][p]Taking part in this challenge and raising essential funds will help children like 12 year old Andrew (name changed to protect his identity) who along with his siblings has just gone into care. Born into an abusive relationship, to parents who abused drugs and alcohol he never really had a childhood. Recently during a therapy session he said ‘Sue, I’ve never told anyone this, but I have had to be the dad for my brother and sister’. And he has. His mum lives on the streets, his Dad is not able to care for his children as he is rarely sober. The children lived with their grandparents for a few years. But when grandma passed away, grandpa’s own health deteriorated and he could no longer take care of them. [/p][p]Andrew (and his siblings) rely on the emotional and practical support of Kids Inspire. They have attended lunch club and they have weekly therapy with trauma informed therapists. Andrew regularly tells me that he doesn’t think he’d survive without his therapy. It allows him to press a pause button from his life and for just an hour a week feel calm. [/p][p]They need a long term specialist approach to recover from a lifetime of trauma and most of the funding that Kids Inspire receive is restricted and time limited (12-20 weeks of support).[/p][p]It takes time, specialist knowledge and funding to reclaim lives and rebuild futures. [/p][p]So please support me in this challenge. I absolutely promise you that every penny will make a difference. [/p][p]With love and thanks,[/p][p]Sue 💜[/p][p][br][/p]
