My story

[p]2020 has been a tough one for all of us but I can't imagine how much harder it would have been without a secure base, access to food, clothing, heating, being able to wash and stay clean, somewhere warm and dry to sleep, support from friends and family and a place to call my own. [/p][p]For many people, that is not the case. Due to all kinds of life events and circumstances, they find themselves without secure accommodation, reliant on others or extremely vulnerable and sleeping rough. At any time, this is incredibly difficult to come back from but on top of the day-to-day difficulties of the pandemic, they have had to deal with all the challenges of being without a secure base and home. [/p][p]Each year, Crisis offers a warm place to 100s of guests over the Christmas period when many other services close for the holidays. Guests access food and clothing, a warm, dry place to sleep and a sense of companionship and community so they are not alone over Christmas. [/p][p]Crisis aims to support people back into accommodation and to get them back on their feet so also provides essential health and advice services which can be really difficult to access without a consistent address, for instance, drug and alcohol advisory services, financial and housing advice, and access to GP and other medical services. [/p][p]As well as the work at Christmas, Crisis also offers ongoing, year-round advice and support to vulnerable people to help them get back into regular accommodation. [/p][p]For the past two years -and several before that- I have been lucky enough to work as a volunteer at Crisis during the Christmas period. Each year, its been a rewarding, heart-warming experience. It’s also been a real eye-opener, a reminder that this could happen to any of us or anyone we know, given the right, or wrong, set of circumstances….[/p][p]This year, I won't be volunteering. Because of the pandemic, Crisis has had to change how it works and has had to reduce the number of volunteers. [/p][p]I would still like to support this vital work so will be raising money for Crisis through December and in the run up to the New Year. [/p][p]It costs £28.22 to pay for each night of accommodation for each guest at Crisis. To raise money, I will be doing an early morning pre-breakfast walk/ run/ ride each day for 28 days in the lead up to Christmas, starting 1 December. (If I do miss any, I'll add on at the end to make up the 28) [/p][p]Any support you can offer would be fantastic and make a huge difference to those in need. [/p][p] [/p][p][br][/p]
