My story

[p]On Wednesday 5 September a group of colleagues, suppliers and customers (and a couple of Barnsley supporters) are getting together for 5 days of driving, camping, fun and laughter, and most importantly to raise £100,000 for our partner Charity Mind, by taking part in the BSS Car-aoke Challenge. [/p][p]Sarah Matthews, my co-driver, from George Fischer, Toby Tyke, the mascot of Barnsley Football Club and myself will leave Leicester on 5 September to drive a 1991 Mazda MX5 Mk1 across continental Europe eventually arriving in Lake Como (if the car makes it), then arriving back in the UK on Sunday 9 September. [/p][p]Our theme is "It's like watching Brazil" and our mission is to to show everyone what a fantastic club we support and how Reds fans help to change people's lives.[/p][p]Why support Mind?[/p][p]Mind offers information and advice to people with mental health problems and lobbies government and local authorities on their behalf working to raise publick awareness and understanding of issues relating to mental health.[/p][p]99% of UK construction workers are male and the average age of a male UK construction worker is 40. Suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.[/p][p]1 in 4 construction workers have considered taking their own life.[/p][p]In March 2017 data released from the office of national statistics revealed that 1,419 people working in the construction industry took their own lives between 2011 and 2015.[/p][p]This is more that 3 times the number of suicides by those working as corporate managers or directors within sales roles. And this is more than 10 times the number of sucicides by those working in health or social care.[/p][p]The money raised from this challenge will add to the precious funds that allow Mind to support over 400,000 people each year who experience mental health issues.[/p]
