My story

[p]As the New Year begins to unfold, we can all look forward to the possibility of interesting adventures, exciting opportunities and new challenges ahead over the coming months. For me, there will definitely be a challenge coming up on the morning of 28th April, as I head for the start line of the London Marathon 2019. I will be running on behalf of a very worthwhile charity, ‘Get Kids Going!’.[/p][p]‘Get Kids Going!’ is a national charity, which aims to give disabled children and young people - up to the age of 26 years - the wonderful opportunity of playing sport. They provide them with specially built sports' wheelchairs so they can take part: in athletics, marathons, tennis, skiing, rugby, sailing, boccia, basketball, sledge hockey, table tennis, fencing, shooting, archery, powerlifting and many more sports. The charity also inspires British disabled youngsters to compete in sporting events, from their initial introduction right up to Paralympic level, by awarding sports grants to help with training, physiotherapy, travel, competition fees, design and development of sports' equipment etc. They support children with all disabilities and from all backgrounds, not only, to access sport but also provide manual wheelchairs for children to use every day at home, at school and to enable them to play with their friends.[/p][p]We love our sport at Exeter Junior School, where I work, and are so fortunate that we all have the opportunity and ability to enjoy participating in such a wide variety of sport in our school. So, as an appreciation of this and with the very kind help of Miss Wright (our Games teacher) together we have come up with a plan that could possibly help this worthwhile charity, help everyone to keep fit and to help me keep on the ‘straight and narrow’ of my training programme for the coming weeks! [/p][p]As part of their regular games warm up, all our pupils complete a short run/jog around the perimeter of the astro. Miss Wright has calculated that by extending the distance run during the warm up, by just a few meters, and combining each individual’s distance, the form together could have run the equivalent of at least a marathon (26.2 miles) before the end of term. She has also calculated that by combining the mileage from each class, the distance completed by the cross-country running (and my training!) could possibly accrue a distance equivalent to running from Exeter Junior School to the start of the marathon at Black Heath, and back (around 404 miles!).[/p][p]It would be wonderful if you felt you could support us all, as we aim to complete each classes’ own marathon, clock off the ‘Miles to London (and back!)’ and ultimately my completing the London Marathon in April. This could either be with encouraging words, by sponsoring the children’s efforts, maybe per mile or week as their form completes its warm ups, (using the form attached) or by donating to this wonderful charity at: [/p][p]http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Susan-Marks[/p][p]We are all looking forward to an exciting spring term of running/jogging or walking and gathering our collective mileage to, from and finally, around London! We will keep you posted over the coming weeks on our progress, via this site and our newsletter, as we all don our running shoes, stretch out our legs and enjoy the good feelings that keeping fit and helping others can bring.[/p][p]Many thanks[/p][p]Sue [/p]
