My story

[p]There are times when running can be great fun, a pure adrenalin rush! And there are times when it can be quite painful .... just look at my photo![/p][p]I might have to dig deep to find the energy I’ll need to get me through the 2018 London Marathon: you can help me in this by supporting my efforts to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society’s dementia research. [/p][p]Around 850,000 people are estimated to be living with dementia in the UK at the moment; that figure is expected to reach one million by 2025 and two million by 2050. If smaller numbers are easier to grasp, one in every 14 people over 65 in the UK has dementia and the growth of the disease is such that one in every three born this year is expected to develop it in their lifetime. Many people, including myself, already know personally what happens when someone close is affected by dementia and that will increase with every year that goes by.[/p][p]Although government and industry are putting significant sums into research, total investment, including money raised by charities, is less than a tenth for dementia of that for cancer and heart research. I’d like to do something to help redress that balance and I’d love you to join in by sponsoring my run on 22 April. It doesn’t matter how little you give, every donation will help the fight against this terrible disease. [/p][p]And if you want to see what fun it is to run 26 miles and a few hundred yards, come and join me on the day. It would be great to have your voice shouting encouragement from the crowd as I make my way to the finishing line.[/p][p]Thanks from me and from the Alzheimer’s Society - www.alzheimers.org.uk[/p]
