My story

[p]I've joined the Dementia Revolution; the official Charity Team of the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019. [/p][p]I'm so excited (and a little apprehensive!) to be tackling the London Marathon for the second time, twisting and turning my way along 26.2 miles through the streets of London; because research can end dementia and taking on this challenge for the Dementia Revolution is a unique opportunity to power the most ambitious dementia research endeavour the UK has ever seen.[/p][p]As part of my training and my challenge, I'm also tackling the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 24th March 2019, so two events, 39.3 miles and lots of training to look forward to! All being well, post marathon I also have an entry for the Vitality 10km in May, an event I loved in 2018.[/p][p]I learnt a lot about myself physically and mentally when I undertook the London Marathon in 2018, and since August 2018 I've been working really hard on cross training and with twice weekly personal trainer sessions, with Marathon training fully starting in January. [/p][p]Dementia is something close to my heart, with my beloved Granny (Dad's Mum) and Grandad (Mum's Dad) living with it. My Granny passed away a few years ago but I have some of her possessions which I treasure and love cooking and baking from her recipes, particularly when they have her handwritten adaptations on them. Grandad now lives in a care home but the sparks of "old Grandad" are still there; particularly when talking about steam trains![/p][p]Dementia is the biggest health threat facing society and there are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it. Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK are joining forces for a year-long campaign to power ground-breaking dementia research, overthrow old attitudes and lead the charge towards a cure. [/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Dementia Revolution charities; Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK. [/p][p]To give an idea of how donations help:[/p][p]£30 powers an hour of cutting edge microscopy, to uncover the causes of dementia.[/p][p]£100 pays for essential flasks and kits, to keep experiments running.[/p][p]£500 helps to fund state of the art brain scans to reveal clues to dementia.[/p][p]£1000 pays for specialist chemicals, to understand what goes wrong in Alzheimer's and other dementias and how we can stop it.[/p][p]I have a blog on my marathon training at https://suzeendean.wordpress.com/category/london-marathon if you want to follow for updates.[/p][p]I cannot say it enough;[/p][p]THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT![/p]
