My story

[p]Thank you so much for visiting my Virgin Money Giving page![/p][p]I am doing the nuttiest thing before I stop being 45 (only just though, my birthday is the day after and will obviously be the most painful one ever)[/p][p]I have been lucky enough to secure a ballot place in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2020 which means I am not obliged to run for any charity. I could choose my own or just not bother.[/p][p]Not bother???![/p][p]Running the London Marathon is a bucket list item for me and anyone who knows me, knows I couldn't waste what is probably my entire life's best possible opportunity to raise funds for charity. After putting the word out via my work social media that I was looking for a local good cause, the Exeter CITY Community Trust was the best option out of all the nominations; a no brainer that ticks every box I've ever put out there: environment, homelessness, LGBT+, disabilities and more. It's not just about football. (It is quite a bit about football)[/p][p]If you would like to follow my journey - from getting my place, to trainer shopping, training and to find out lots more about just how the CITY Trust touches so many thousands of people every year, please keep an eye on my regular updates (check #TBMTheBeltMakers on your favourite social media)! I will share with you the story of how a 45 year old non-runner manages to build from 'Couch to 5k' to over 40k in 6 months (Yikes!) and creates awareness for one of Exeter's biggest, little known assets.[/p][p]I asked Exeter CITY Community Trust for a few words about what they do... [/p][p]It’s a charity which is quietly getting on with things behind the scenes in Exeter, making a difference to the lives of thousands of people every day. The organisation, which is the charity partner of Exeter City Football Club, delivers services and creates opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of people of all ages.[/p][p]They don’t receive any core funding and rely on people like us to raise funds to support their work, alongside grants, donations and participants signing up to their programmes.[/p][p]Some of the things you might find them doing include activities for children and adults with disabilities, working in our local prisons to reduce reoffending, giving young people with Down’s syndrome the chance to play football as part of a team and delivering the National Citizen Service to more than 600 teenagers every year, to name a few. They also stage running events in the city, which raise money for other charities, including Age UK Exeter, Julian House and the Exeter Leukaemia Fund. It’s a brilliant charity, focused on improving the lives of people across Exeter and Devon and I’d be so grateful if you could support them by sponsoring me. You can find out more about the charity here https://www.exetercitycommunitytrust.co.uk/about-us [/p][p]... and you can sign up to the newsletter to follow progress here https://mailchi.mp/365a7e7b4b28/tbmthebeltmakers-newsletter-signup. [/p][p]Thanks again for visiting! If you are able to spare a few quid I and thousands of others would be hugely grateful. If you can't, maybe you could help us spread the word via your social media channels (links above)? [/p][p]Thank you so much, on behalf of thousands of grateful Exonians.[/p][p]Marie x[/p][p][br][/p][p]Photos: [/p][p]ECFC Apollo football team is run for the LGBT+ community[/p][p]NCS students raise funds for the city's Force cancer charity[/p][p][br][/p]
