Team story

[p]The Book Trade Charity 2020 Appeal – Help Us Open Doors! [/p][p]Please help The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) to open doors – by building affordable housing for new entrants to the book trade and giving them a crucial start in their careers. [/p][p]Every donation, no matter how small, helps build not just rooms, but the book trade – opening doors and horizons for many. [/p][p]The Book Trade Charity delivers vital support to people in the book trade who are in need. For those starting out in publishing, it has embarked on a large building project to provide affordable accommodation. You can help us now by sponsoring cycling Team BTBS in aid of the Book Trade Charity 2020 Appeal![/p][p]For more than 180 years, The Book Trade Charity has provided invaluable assistance across a range of issues to those who have worked or seek to work in any part of the book industry. The Charity’s quiet, steady support has been life-changing for many.[/p][p]The Charity is committed to supporting greater diversity among trade entrants, including attracting young people from a broader range of backgrounds and areas of the UK, in order to build a more dynamic, diverse and inclusive publishing industry. London, where much of the industry continues to be based, is an expensive place to live, and The Book Trade Charity seeks to help here. [/p][p]The Retreat, the Charity’s site at King’s Langley, has for many years provided affordable accommodation, both long and short-term. The Charity is now also developing several flats in Whetstone in the Barnet area of North London, specifically to offer affordable accommodation to career starters. You can see here what former Whetstone resident Hena Bryan, a London Book Fair 2019 Trailblazer, has to say about her positive experience of The Book Trade Charity’s accommodation support when she started her first publishing job. [/p][p]This is a £3m project, funded by the Charity and a bank loan. We are raising funds to pay off that loan as quickly as possible, so that the Charity can continue to be secure in its support to many. Our target is to raise £500,000 by the end of 2020. [/p][p]Please do support us in our campaign to add to this.[/p][p]Your donation is vital to help people to embark on a new career and blossom. The Whetstone project is aimed at people in their first (or possibly second) full-time role in the trade or on an internship (minimum 6 months) who could not otherwise afford to live in London.[/p][p]Please visit and for more information. [/p][p]Please help us towards our target and thank you for your support! [/p]
