[p][br][/p][p]On Sunday August 16th, in memory of my beautiful and deeply missed daughter, Liberty Grace Schurer, I will once again be donning my cycling gear and taking on the challenge of the iconic Prudential RideLondon-Surrey, a 100 mile route starting from the Queen Elizabeth Park in London, through the Surrey hills (including the infamous Box Hill!) before heading back to London! I am thrilled to be supported by my #TeamLibs riders and good friends from London2Paris last year- Martin Fenner, Richard Taylor (aka The Major) and Rob Gill. We are also thrilled to welcome new members, Simon Dodd, who actually cycled the Pru100 for us back in 2018, along with #TeamLibs newbie, Robbie Blood.[/p][p]As many of you will know, we sadly lost Liberty in October 2017 after she fought a courageous battle with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare and very aggressive form of primary Bone Cancer. She had just celebrated her 14th birthday and our lives have been changed forever, she has left a gaping hole that cannot be filled.[/p][p]Throughout her treatment, Liberty was as an inspiration to so many with how bravely and valiantly she faced everything thrown at her, from gruelling chemotherapy, hair loss, chronic nausea and biopsies, to limb salvage surgeries, radiotherapy and a stem cell transplant. She refused to let this cruel disease define her and the smile for which she was so well known and wicked sense of humour rarely faded, despite everything she had to endure.[/p][p]When Libs discovered that the cancer had spread and that nothing further could be done, her greatest wish was to not be forgotten and for no other young person or family to suffer and be ripped apart in the same way. [/p][p]And so her idea for Liberty's Legacy was born and set up to raise awareness and vital funds for Ewings research in her name. Since February 1st 2018, Liberty's Legacy has been a special fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust, with all monies raised ring-fenced specifically for research into Ewing's as per her wishes. [/p][p]Already the funds we have raised have had a direct impact, with several research projects well underway. But we know it's just the tip of the iceberg and every penny raised really does count and will make a difference if we are to change the landscape for future children diagnosed with this brutal disease.[/p][p]Survival rates for Ewing's have not improved in nearly 40 years and the treatment protocol that Liberty received was not only designed for adults, but was decades old. With your help we urgently need to change this so that children like Liberty have a fighting chance - she had so much to offer and deserved so much more and I could not be more proud to call her my daughter.[/p][p]We are determined to honour her Legacy and will keep on fighting and raising funds in her name...#UntilTheresACure[/p][p]Thank you for reading and thank you for donating.[/p][p]To find out more about Liberty's Legacy, please follow us on Facebook @libertyslegacycharity[/p][p]Instagram @ Libertys_Legacy[/p][p]Twitter @libertyslegacy3[/p][p][br][/p]
