My story

[p]'THE 21’ is a gruelling cycling event where participants will take on all 21 stages of the 2019 Tour de France route whilst raising valuable funds for ’THE 21’s' chosen charities. [/p][p]The ride will begin on the 5th July 2019 just ONE DAY ahead of the Tour de France itself. The full route - 21 stages - will be ridden by ten people including ex England cricketer, Matt Prior. [/p][p]Billed as the highest Tour de France in history the team will have to endure…[/p][p]7 flat stages[/p][p]5 hilly stages[/p][p]7 mountain stages[/p][p]2 time-trial stages [/p][p]All of which include more than 30 climbs of second category or higher with eight vertigo-inducing altitude summits in total! The riders will cover 21 stages over the course of three weeks totalling 3,490km.[/p][p]Our charities have been personally selected by members of the team. [/p][p]Dan’s Trust[/p][p]Dan’s Trust was set up in memory of Danny Bagshaw. In October 2012 Dan passed away suddenly at the finish line of a triathlon from an undiagnosed heart condition. He was 27. Set up in his memory, Dan’s Trust has since raised over £500,000 to help fund research into Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) and has created their ‘Make a Difference award scheme to give financial help to deserving individuals to help fulfil their potential. http://www.danstrust.org[/p][p]Chance to shine[/p][p]Chance to Shine is a national charity on a mission to spread the power of cricket throughout schools and communities. The charity takes cricket to new places and uses it to ignite new passions, teach vital skills, unite diverse groups, and educate young people from Cornwall to Cardiff to County Durham.[/p][p]Since 2005, Chance to Shine has given over 4 million boys and girls in more than 15,000 state schools and community projects, the opportunity to play and learn through cricket. The Chance to Shine Street programme is engaging thousands of young people in inner-city areas affected by youth crime. www.chancetoshine.org [/p][p]Parkinson's UK[/p][p]Parkinson’s is a condition that affects the brain. It develops when cells in the brain stop working properly and are lost over time. The number of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the UK is about 145,000. That’s around 1 adult in every 350. [/p][p]We influence and fund groundbreaking research to advance understanding of Parkinson’s and improve treatments. We offer support and opportunities to live life to the full for everyone with Parkinson’s, their families and carers. We raise awareness, change perceptions and work in partnership to drive better services.
