My story

[p]Hey there, thank you so much for visiting my fundraising page. [/p][p]I wanted to share a story of hope in a time where it feels like all we hear is bad news. And a request, if you can, to help me say thank you to the NHS. [/p][p]My Dad is currently in hospital recovering from coronavirus. He was admitted to the intensive care unit on March 23rd and for 9 days relied on a ventilator to breathe. Not only was the care he received second to none, day in and day out, but the support to my family was amazing. The doctors and nurses called my Mum every day and night to update her, updates which were invaluable at a time when we were scared and unable to see or speak to him ourselves.[/p][p]Last Wednesday 1st April Dad came off the ventilator, out of the induced coma, and since then has been breathing by himself and recovering well. I get to speak to him on the phone everyday, and I promise you the novelty of being able to call him will never go. All I want is to be near Dad, to hug him and have a drink once this is all over. For now he is in the most capable, incredible hands with the NHS until he can come home.[/p][p]I won’t ever be able to put into words how grateful I am to the NHS for quite literally saving my Dad’s life. But I hope I can do something, however small, to say thank you.[/p][p]I am going to run 10km a day for 9 days, a run for every day the doctors and nurses at the RUH in Bath worked tirelessly to care for him day and night in the ICU. The money raised will be going to NHS Charities Together, who’s mission statement is to support the welfare and the wellbeing of NHS staff as they fight COVID-19. I completed a 10km run yesterday and donated £10, but I need your help with fundraising a little more.[/p][p]I know that these are particularly challenging times for many of us financially, but if you would like to donate I would be so thankful. And if you are not able to, I hope at least my Dad’s story offers some positivity in a frightening time.[/p][p]The money raised will go towards:[/p][p]1) Funding well-being packs for staff and volunteers on wards/departments[/p][p]2) Cost of travel, parking, accommodation for NHS staff and Volunteer expenses[/p][p]3) Other items as requested by NHS Charities that enhance the well-being of NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients[/p][p]I will of course be abiding by government and NHS guidelines, keeping my distance at all times whilst running. So one down, eight to go. Wish me luck! [/p][p]Keep safe everyone – I really hope you and your loved ones are well.[/p][p]Tara xxx[/p]

Fantastic effort Tara. It is marvellous to see your Dad recovering and looking/sounding so well. I am a fellow Bristol Creamer who has also benefitted tremendously from the NHS and their staff. How great are they? Unspeakably great !
