Team story

Hi,

Thank you for visiting our page. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

Who are we?

We are 7 soldiers from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq. We are more than ever aware of the need to support the charities that work tirelessly to ensure our comrades are supported irrespective of race or religion. All team members are serving officers or soldiers and feel that to participate in a challenge such as this is the least that can be done to secure the future of injured soldiers and the families of the fallen.

What are we doing?

In March 2011 team Tartan Cassino will start their arduous challenge. The team will cycle from Monte Cassino in Italy to Edinburgh Castle travelling 1750 miles through Italy, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom finishing on the ramparts of Scotland's most famous landmark. Over 14 days the team will cycle on average 125 miles per day and until they reach the shore's of the UK. We will sleep in tents by the roadside to ensure the challenge is achieved.

Help for Heroes

Help 4 Heroes has become a national institution and rightly the public have showed their uncompromising support, it is for this reason like so many, we have chosen to support this amazing charity. Having experience of their work on a personal basis. LCpl Lewis Montague, one of the support team, currently receives treatment at Headley court, we must all continue to support where and when we can.

We have chosen to support 3 other service charities that deal with soldiers past and as importantly present.

Erskine House

Founded in 1916, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries. Re-building shattered lives, restoring dignity and providing first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland Association

The Royal Regiment of Scotland Association benefits from having a strong Regimental Association, concerned with the ongoing welfare of serving and ex-service members of the regiment, as well as the antecedenant Regiments. The welfare of its members and ex-members is seen as a very important part of the Regiment's obligations, and the Association is strongly supported by it.

The Black Watch Association

The Black Watch Association is a charity which helps all those who have served in The Black Watch Regiment and their dependants when they find themselves in adverse circumstances.

Upon completion of Tartan Cassino we will divide the money H4H (35%), Erskine House (35%), The Royal Regiment of Scotland Association (15%) and The Black Watch Association (15%).

The team look to everyone to spread the word of this challenge and we invite guidance and words of support via Twitter or Facebook.

Should you be able to offer financial support or wish to donate then i would ask you to contact me on team@tartancassino.com or via this page.

Website: www.tartancassino.com

Twitter: @tartancassino

Facebook: Tartan Cassino Thank you one and all for your support.

Team Tartan Cassino

Richard, Bobby, Andrew, Rab, Kevin, David, Wedgy
