Team story

[p]In just 85 days time, on Monday 30th July, we will be gearing up for the eleventh leg of the Team Dransfield Tour of Europe 2020 charity cycle challenge. [/p][p]Our 7 strong team will tackle the beautifully untouched fjord landscape picking up last year’s finish point in Oslo to cycle through to Stavanger, Norway where this year’s ride will finish on Friday 3rd August.[/p][p]And so it began…..Eleven years in, we have now cycled through eleven countries, have been joined by 160 riders on one or more legs of the tour and have raised a staggering £466,436 in support of our chosen charities.[/p][p]This year we are set to add a further 400 miles to this mad journey in support of two charities which remain very close to our hearts, Action Against Cancer and The Dransfield Foundation.[/p][p]Through The Dransfield Foundation we are able to support young people who suffer terminal or life limiting conditions and illnesses, or who are disadvantaged by circumstances in life. We primarily aim to help youngsters in those communities in which our riders live and work.[/p][p]Action Against Cancer is one of the smaller cancer charities in the UK who fund ground-breaking research and treatment carried out at Imperial College in London. Action Against Cancer is a charity which we have supported for over five years and the funds given to date have supported a number of areas of research, primarily the cancer stem cells programme. This cutting edge research is aiming to diagnose cancer earlier and treat it more effectively. [/p][p]There are only four more rides remaining before we complete the challenge, in 2019 we will cross the water to the UK and cycle from Aberdeen to Morpeth and our final leg in 2020 will take us from Morpeth to London, where the tour began in 2007. [/p][p]All donations will be equally spilt between the two charities and will be directed to frontline resources only – no management fees, salaries or bursaries. [/p][p]Each member of the team covers the cost of the trip ensuring that the money we raise helps to make a difference to people’s lives. [/p][p]This is going to be another difficult year, and I can assure you it is not getting any easier! We are all far from being in top shape. Not only do we vary in profession, shape, size and personality but equally in capability.[/p][p]We appreciate your support so please do follow us on Twitter @TeamDransfield and “like” us on Facebook, or alternatively via our website which is updated regularly throughout the ride so you can keep up to date with all the action. [/p][p]Without your vital support helping these children and their families would not be possible.[/p][p]Please do dig deep.[/p][p]Thank you![/p][p]Team Dransfield[/p][p] [/p]
