Team story

[p]Fraser was involved in a devastating accident on 17th February this year. He was on life support and spent 4 weeks in Critical Care Pod 6 at University Hospital North Midlands (Stoke Hospital) before being moved to Ward 228. He is now on ARTU (Acute Rehabilitation Trauma Unit) on Ward 227. This ward is incredible and Fraser is very lucky to be in one of only 26 beds where patients are helped in achieving their maximum potential for physical, cognitive, social and psychological function.[/p][p]We want to raise money for two specialist tilt-in-space chairs and 2 shower chairs for ARTU Ward 227. Tilt-in-space chairs enable people with serious injuries to sit out whilst maintaining their posture without too much effort. This ensures that their energy can be used for other activities such as different kinds of rehabilitation or even just eating and relaxing. It also reduces the effort required by caregivers and family to move the individual around. [/p][p]Another item we would like to facilitate is a water fountain in the Critical Care waiting room where we spent many anguished hours along with other traumatised families. The rest of the funds will go towards Critical Care, Ward 227 and Ward 228 ( Neurological Ward) to help the incredible NHS staff who work tirelessly to care for us all when we need it. The Neuro unit will be responsible for carrying out Fraser's cranioplasty and is key to his ongoing recovery.[/p][p]The impact of Covid-19 on NHS workers has been profound - Fraser has been in their loving, dedicated care since February and every single day we are overwhelmed and amazed by their commitment. Lack of equipment and the emotional toll of staff having to work very long hours in extremely pressured, high risk environments cannot be underestimated and, for Fraser, we'd like to do all we can to say thank you and to make the lives of these wonderful people just that little bit easier.[/p]
