Team story

[span=font-size: xx-small;][lt]span lang="EN-GB"[gt][lt]span style="font-size: xx-small;"[gt][lt]span lang="EN-GB"[gt][p]Thank you so much for visiting Team LMT's fund raising page for Lucy's Cent Cols. We are attempting to ride a bespoke Rapha Cent Cols Challenge: 100 cols, 10 days, 11 riders, one team. It's not going to be easy![/p][p]Team LMT is an amateur cycling team, founded by Lucy Monro in 2013. Based in Dubai, but with members around the world, it comprises riders of varied nationalities and abilities and has a competitive, but inclusive style. Originally named Team SWR, after one of the magazines that she edited and published, it was renamed following her death on Friday 13th February 2015. Our new name honours her legacy and also draws awareness to the newly formed Lucy Monro Memorial Trust - for details, please see www.lmmt.org[/p][p]Starting on September 29th 2015, 11 riders from Team LMT will roll away from Montpellier in southern France. We have two purposes: to ride a fitting memorial to Lucy and also to raise funds for LMMT. The ride, named simply 'Lucy's Cent Cols', involves climbing 100 mountain passes (cols), in ten days: in total, each rider will hopefully cover 2,000km and climb 40,000m. It's a huge challenge, covering 65% of the distance and 100% of the cumulative climbing of a Tour de France, but in less than half the time! By any measure, it's a truly daunting task. It's also late in the year for this sort of thing: our weather will almost certainly be 'mixed' and the daylight hours may well prove too short![/p][p]It will be the first time that a Rapha Cent Cols Challenge has been ridden by a team and it's also the inaugural Cent Cols event in this particular region of France - the Cévennes and Massif Central.[/p][p]Our riders for this event are: Allan Greenfield (UAE & NZ and Lucy's partner of 15 years), Nico d'Haemer (UAE & BEL), Simon Marshall (UAE & UK), Philip Bond (CH & UK), Mike Duckworth (UAE & UK), Mike Hewitt (UAE & USA), Thomas Fabe (UAE & GER), Jim Pusey (UAE & USA), Kev Mellalieu (UK), Loren Schaeffer (USA) and Guy Townsend (UK and Lucy's brother). We owe thanks beyond words to our sponsors and friends who have made this possible: Rapha Travel, the Rapha Cent Cols Challenge, Bounce Energy Foods, Silverback, Stages Cycling, GU, Bonk Breaker, Dubai Physiotherapy & Family Medicine Clinic and Expertise Promotional Gifts (UAE).[/p][p]For Team LMT, this is all part of our 'closure.' We're approaching this unique ride with a mixture of emotions: sadness that we can't involve Lucy herself in her Team's greatest ride and fear that we might fail, but also joy at the opportunity to ride, remember and to the extent possible, heal together. We can't promise that we'll all climb 100 cols - it's just too difficult for anyone to be truly confident. We can however guarantee you two things: first, that each and every Team LMT rider is going to toil, suffer and try their very best, day after day; and second, that ALL funds raised for the Lucy Monro Memorial Trust will go entirely to supporting small, grass-roots causes where we can be certain that the funds will be put to great use.[/p][p]You can follow our progress via a nightly blog, (photos and all the stage details) and also via our Facebook page:[/p][p]www.sirguylitespeed.com  [/p][p]https://www.facebook.com/Team-LMT-391340557659955/timeline/[/p][p] A very sincere thank you from us all: Guy, Allan, Thomas, Nico, Mike, Jim, Simon, Kev, Mike, Phil and Loren. September 2015[/p][lt]span style="font-size: xx-small;"[gt][lt]span lang="EN-GB"[gt][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][p][/p][lt]span style="text-decoration: underline;"[gt][lt]span style="font-size: xx-small; color: #ff0000;"[gt][lt]span style="font-size: xx-small; color: #ff0000;"[gt][p][/p][/span][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt][lt]/span[gt]
