Team story

[p]On 1st January 2019 Natasha’s mother in law, Jean, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer (with very few symptoms). The shock of the cancer for her and the family was enough, but then to be told the only treatment available in her case was to prolong her life – was heart breaking. Jean fought this crippling illness with grace but unfortunately her battle ended just over 6 months later on 27th June when she passed away, leaving everyone devastated.[/p][p]Sadly this is not the only occasion that pancreatic cancer has taken someone close to Natasha, as her amazing Nan also died from this awful disease in 2006. Another amazing family also lost their husband / father / granddad (Keith) and a beautiful client lost her sister – all to pancreatic cancer. [/p][p]Last year Natasha helped Frankee raise money for a charity that was close to her heart, this year it’s Frankee’s turn to support Natasha. [/p][p]So, to raise awareness and some much needed funds to fight against this awful cancer we are going to complete 20 (TWENTY!) Challenges in 2020! [/p][p]This will include:[/p][p]Manchester Marathon[/p][p]London Marathon [/p][p]The Big Half [/p][p]12 Park Runs[/p][p]Wolf Run[/p][p]Race To The Stones (100km)[/p][p]Climbing the O2[/p][p]Swim for Survival [/p][p]And finally finishing in December with The Santa Fun Run! [/p][p]Please please give anything you can, and if anyone would like to join us on any of these challenges and help raise money for this charity then let us know – the more the merrier! [/p][p]Lots of love[/p][p]Tash & Frankee xxx[/p][p][br][/p][p]Here’s also a little message from Ron....[/p][p][br][/p][p]My name is Ron Hillier. Jean, my lovely wife of 47 years and much loved Mum and Granny to the family , was diagnosed with Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer on 1st January 2019. The news was devastating - all the more as she had only visited the GP 12 days earlier after feeling unwell for a couple of weeks. We had many things planned last year to celebrate us both reaching 70 but she died on 27th June 2019 a few weeks before she reached that milestone.[/p][p]All cancers are serious of course and one of the things that makes Pancreatic Cancer serious is the lack of symptons often until the late diagnosis. It is the UK's 5th biggest cancer killer and over 9000 people die from it each year. Knowing the signs and symptons means you can act on any signs sooner with early diagnosis increasing the chance of survival[/p][p]I joined Team Purple to support Tasha & Frankee in raising money to fund research to diagnose this cancer earlier, improve treatment, raise awareness and improve knowledge of healthcare professionals and everyone else out there.[/p][p]My older joints mean I'll be joining in some of the (shorter!!) challenges that Tasha & Frankee are undertaking and doing the Scottish Half marathon in September 2020. Dan my son in law is also running in various events this year and joining Tasha & Frankee in running the London Marathon in April 2020 with his own fundraising page for Cancer Research UK.[/p][p]Anything you can give will be much appreciated and help anyone diagnosed with this disease and their loved ones also.[/p][p]Thanks a lot[/p][p]Ron[/p]
