My story

[p]Since 2009 Resource On Demand has been raising money for charities and volunteering in the community. [/p][p]This is very much a personal commitment from the Directors of ROD, who could share many stories on how some of these charities have personally helped and supported various family members and friends in what has been incredibly difficult times. Theirs is a story though not of sadness, but of inspiration and is what drives them and the team to continue to volunteer and fundraise, therefore helping to create a brighter future for others!![/p][p]This year they have decided to take part in the ultimate test of endurance by completing "2 Challenges in 2 Months".[/p][p]On the 27th May 2018 they will attempt the 100k London to Brighton in under 24 hours - by any means as long as it involves running, jogging, walking and possibly crawling!![/p][p]And then two months later on the 27th July 2018, they will attempt the 3 Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden) in 24 hours. [/p][p]However, the toughest challenge is deciding what charity to support, so this year they have included 5 worthy causes: British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Help for Heros, NSPCC and Mind. [/p][p]02/05/2018: After five months of training, a few injuries, many many blisters and hundreds of miles of training, the first challenge is less than a month away!! Any donation you make, will make a difference, and will keep the crazy team going through the night and battling against the elements!!![/p][p]24/05/2018: It's just two days to go, to the first of the two events - the 100k challenge! We have clocked up over a staggering 721 miles each in training sessions and now nothing stands between us and the finishing line. To say there are some nerves is an understatement, but the bags are packed with a huge supply of compeed plasters, talc, fresh socks, gels and a plethora of other essentials. And now all there is left to do, is put one foot in front of the other to cover the 100k in 24 hours. Fueled and motivated by your kind donations we know that we can complete the challenge. Thank you all!![/p][p]27/5/2018: Event Day. To say it was a tough challenge is rather an understatement, as the challenge really started to take its toll at the 67k mark. We both had to face our demons and dig deep to overcome various injuries including shredded feet and advice not to continue, to finish the last painful 33k. It took a great deal of team work to keep one another motivated and moving, but we did it!!! We completed 100k and was greeted by a cone of bubbly and a medal at the finishing line, before flaking out for a well deserved nap on the journey home! [/p][p]17/06/2018: It has been three weeks since our last challenge and now we are in full preparation mode for the second challenge - the Three Peaks! Well we were until this weekend! Sadly some of the injuries from the last challenge haven't quite healed yet and so the 17 mile hike around the Lake Districts mini 3 peaks (Catbells, Black Crag and Walla Crag) has scuppered the next two or three weeks training sessions. So it's back to the drawing board to devise a new plan until the bodies have recovered fully! [/p][p]On another more poignant note, we have been made aware by two people very close to us that they are undergoing treatment, that without the help of the charities that we are raising money for, would have left them with a very grim outlook. Thankfully in both cases pioneering procedures means that one of them is well on the way to recovery, and the other is responding well to treatment, but it's still early days. To both of you, we wish you much love and a speedy recovery. I only share their stories to demonstrate how you are helping others through your wonderful generosity!! xxx[/p][p]22/06/2018: Drum roll please! Today we hit our sponsorship target, so thank you all. You are all totally awesome!! However, we will keep the page going as we know there are few kind people who still wish to donate - and as we know every penny helps and can and will make a huge difference. [/p][p]09/07/2018: Three weeks to go until the Three Peaks challenge and yesterday was a big training session after a couple of weeks off to let the sore feet heal from the last one. The outlook is good, as despite a few aches today the feet held up well. [/p][p]Although this weekend, I sadly heard that a relative has taken a turn for the worse and now it all comes down to enjoying those last precious moments! The feeling of helplessness as loved ones fight their own battle is overwhelming, knowing that what we do today will be too late for them. But all the same we enter challenges and do our bit to raise money in the hope that cures can be found so families don't have to go through watching someone they love suffer. [/p][p]23/07/2018: With 5 days to go to the final part of our "2 Challenges in 2 Months" - it's fair to say we are feeling a tad jaded with all of the training. It has been a punishing schedule, but the end is in sight and the excitement is kicking in!!![/p]
