Team story

[p]**** Thank you so much for the generous donations to date! We are really grateful, and have upped our target again to £7,500. We are committed to raising as much money and awareness as we can xx****[/p][p]Team Roger consists of Judi Wilson (Roger’s wife), and Abbi Blakey (Roger’s daughter). We have joined the Dementia Revolution; the official Charity Team of the Virgin Money London Marathon 2019. [/p][p]Judi says: It has always been my dream to run in the London Marathon since its conception, so when my husband Roger was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in May 2016, I was more determined than ever to try to gain a place.[/p][p]Alzheimer's is a cruel disease with no known cure and it's heartbreaking to watch the man I married in 1972 deteriorate into the person he is today. His short term memory has completely gone, he has no interest in reading, the Guardian crossword, cooking or gardening - the things he loved the most. [/p][p]He struggles when the family get together, as he forgets names, has difficulty in joining in and finds it hard to cope with noisy grandchildren.[/p][p]I am Roger's full time carer which is extremely challenging and with little reward. I've had to give up my teaching career completely and am now unable to visit our grandchildren for any length of time, as Roger cannot be left overnight. [/p][p]My joy is running which I'm still able to manage and as I'll be 70 in April, I thought the London Marathon plus birthday celebrations could be the perfect combination.[/p][p]Please find it in your hearts to donate to the Dementia Revolution so we can find a solution to eradicate this dreadful disease. It is heartbreaking for all our family, including my son Oliver, to watch a once proud, polite and creative gentleman being slowly taken from us.[/p][p]Abbi says: I did my first marathon (Milton Keynes) in 2016 and said never again! However, how could I say no to running this marathon with my mum, to support this campaign. Funds will help people like my dear dad - and my mum who sees him gradually decline on a daily basis. We will cross the line together holding hands and thank you for your support.[/p][p]The Dementia Revolution is here. Join us.[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the Dementia Revolution charities; Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer's Research UK. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this.[/p][p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
