Team story

[p]Since April 1969 there has always been a Royal Navy Ballistic Missile Submarine at sea, ensuring that the UK remains safe. To mark 50 years of unbroken service we want to recognise the human endeavour and commitment necessary to sustain this vital operation.[/p][p]The concept of ‘continuous 50’ has inspired members of Team Vanguard to conduct a series of 50km events as a charity fundraiser for Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity in support of positive mental health. We have joined forces with the HMS OARDACIOUS challenge to try and help reach a £100,000 target for RNRMC. These will be individual, team and relay efforts inspired by the concept of a ‘continuous 50’ which include:[/p][p]§ 50km row - Lt Stewart Moss will be conducting a solo 50km row (Armed Forces Day on the Hoe) on 29 June.[/p][p]§ 50km hike - Lt James Cattanach will be leading a team across the West Devon Way (Okehampton to Plymouth) on 23 July.[/p][p]§ 50km run - WO1 Julian ‘Frank’ Spencer will be running the West Devon Way (accompanied by a relay team) on 23 July.[/p][p]§ 50km swim - CPO Gaz Antcliff and PO Kev O’Gorman will be leading a 2000 length swim relay on 15 October.[/p][p]§ 100 mile cycle - WO2 Stirling ‘Spike’ Way will be leading a team of 6 cyclists to our affiliate of Islay for their ‘Ride of the Falling Rain’. (Ok... so it's a bit more than a 50km challenge, but Islay is our affiliate, they always treat us very well whenever we visit, and the team are more than capable of meeting the challenge.)[/p][p]Team Vanguard goes beyond the submariners who will take the boat to sea. It includes all of the industrial partners who are involved in refitting and refueling the submarine to ensure that she is capable of taking her place back on operations. Various staff members from across the enterprise will be taking part in each event to raise money for RNRMC and promote positive mental health.[/p][p]Please donate in recognition of the promotion of positive mental health and the human cost that is involved in ensuring the provision of the safety and security of the United Kingdom.[/p]
