My story

[p]Hi, for those of you that want to know.[/p][p]For the past few years I have been struggling on a daily basis to work and enjoy family activities, tests resulted in me being diagnosed with minor health issues, IBS, high cholesterol, slightly raised blood pressure, overweight, lung function issues, fatigue, concerning but nothing to alarming.[/p][p]Most of which was attributed to my poor lifestyle choices, smoking, drinking, junk food, inactivity, who knew that pleasure was so unhealthy! in my defence I only drank a few beers a month, I was on my feet from 7am to 7pm most days as a builder plus going to the gym twice a week, junk food, not always but often, finally smoking, guilty as charged.[/p][p]On November 14th 2017 at about 7-30pm I had just warmed up at the gym and was talking to two guys I knew there when I had a cardiac arrest, I mean a CARDIAC ARREST!! there was no sound, no pain, I just face planted on the floor, thankfully my son and the two guys stepped in and performed CPR for about half an hour until the paramedics arrived, despite a lack of training they brought me back numerous times, the paramedics then administered 4 lots of shocks before reaching the hospital.[/p][p]As it happens, I had a congenital heart defect that would of got me in the end, my life style made it happen sooner, the surgeons gave me a double heart bypass plus some cleaning and modification and a water pill that drained about 1.5 stone / 9kg of fluid, followed by the cardiac rehabilitation team helping me get back on my feet.[/p][p]I am fund raising to help provide the equipment for early diagnoses, treatment and support for loved ones and people we know that one day could be affected by these ailments.[/p][p]My plan is to walk as often as possible trying to do about 10,000 steps ( 4 miles ) a day, tougher than it sounds as life has a habit of getting in the way.[/p][p]I had hoped to scale the infamous three peaks of Scaffel Pike (England), Snowdon (Wales) and Ben Nevis (Scotland), however owing to ongoing investigations I have changed it to a minimum 87mile walk along the Ridgeway, taking on the three Chiltern peaks of Whiteleaf Cross, Coombe Hill and Ivinghoe Beacon, a much longer walk but not so steep a climb, in a short a time scale as my health, family, work comitments and finances will allow.[/p][p]PS. the pills I am on make me sensitive to the cold, still at least i'm not crossing Antarctica. [/p][p][br][/p]
