Team story

[lt]h2[gt][span=color: #000080;]On the 23rd May 2017 a Challenge Team will embark on a life defining journey. The Goal is Simple, the Task, Monumental, the Reason, Inspirational.......[/span] [lt]/h2[gt] [p]The 100 Peaks Challenge was created as a tribute to Lloyd (Lloydy) Newell, to support ABF The Soldiers Charity and Support Our Paras. Lloyd was KIA June 2011, serving with 22 SAS when he was killed. He spent the vast majority of his career in Colchester with 216 Royal Signals, before transferring to EOD and then back to Colchester and the Parachute Regiment after passing Pathfinder selection.[/p] [p]The Challenge takes place starting from Inverness in Scotland on 23.05.17 (the day Lloydy deployed on his last tour) and finishes on Pen Y Fan on 16.06.17 (the day he was killed).[/p] [p]The Challenge is to run (TAB) 100 Peaks in the UK, all above 610m (2000ft) - approx. 43 in Scotland, 1 on the Isle of Man, 30 in England (The Lake District) and 26 in Wales (Snowdonia & The Brecon Beacons). The Challenge will begin in Scotland on 23 May 2017, before heading across to the Isle of Man, crossing the Irish Sea in sea kayaks. We will cross the Irish Sea for a second time back to the Isle of Whithorn to then cycle on to The Lakes. The final leg in Wales will begin in Snowdonia and culminate with cycling from Capel Curig to the Vrecon Beacons finishing with the 'Fan Dance' at the summit of Pen Y Fan.[/p] [p]The Challenge is a genuine attempt at something quite epic. It encompasses three disciplines that are demanding enough on their own, but are then thrown together in an extreme triathlon. This, with the logistics of attempting to summit 100 Peaks in 4 countries in 25 days, means it's a first.[/p][p]It's quite possibly the most demanding endurance Challenge ever staged in the UK (given the logisitics and timescale).[/p] [p]In the 25 days the team will run and cycle (and attempt 2 crossings of the Irish Sea) close to 1500 miles, with an average elevation gain of 10,000ft a day, therefore equivalent to 9 ascents of Mount Everest during the course of the Challenge.[/p][p]The Challenges simple goal is to create a legacy in Lloydys name and raise a minimum of £100,000.00 for the two charities.[/p][p]The Team to take on the FULL Challenge will be: [/p][p]Scott Wealthall, Paul Southernwood, Caria Ammerlaan & [span=font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;]Karl Rushen.[/span][/p][p][lt]object width="425" height="350" data="http://www.youtube.com/v/bHlefQ3aW5A" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"[gt][lt]param name="data" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bHlefQ3aW5A" /[gt][lt]param name="quality" value="high" /[gt][lt]param name="wmode" value="transparent" /[gt][lt]param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bHlefQ3aW5A" /[gt][lt]/object[gt][/p] [p]Please like us on Facebook. Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to the charities we are supporting. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligable for this.[/p] [p]By supporting The 100 Peaks Challenge you are directly supporting ABF The Soldiers Charity and Support our Paras. All funds raised go straight to the Charities via Virgin Money Giving; nothing is taken from the Fundraising Effort for the Challenge Operating Costs.[/p] [p]Your donations really will make a difference to people's lives and help make this Challenge a success. Furthermore, you have helped us celebrate true heroes, and given hope to those that need it through the charities we are supporting. This is Lloydy’s legacy, thank you for helping us make it a reality.[/p] [p]We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][vmgvideo class="ql-video" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/t-obgUALXwE?showinfo=0&rel=0&iv_load_policy=3"][/vmgvideo]
