Team story

[p]An announcement from the organisers. [/p][p]It is with a heavy heart we have decided to postpone the Cure Parkinson’s Cup ?on April 19th 2020?. [/p][p]We do this with the safety and well-being of all involved in view of the Coronavirus outbreak. [/p][p]The organisers have worked tirelessly to put the tournament together and have everything in place to reschedule to a later date when we can. [/p][p]We would like to thank our sponsors, team coordinators, Worcester Warriors staff and owners, Mike Tindall and his rugby legends, players, all at the Cure Parkinson’s Trust, Goal Giving, Rich Hurst, the Fanzone exhibitors, the organisers of the PD Vision 2020 conference, all media channels that have helped us promote the event this far and the whole Parkinson’s community for your amazing support. [/p][p]In the meantime, I wish you all the best until we reconvene to compete for one of the most prestigious trophies in world sport; the Cure Parkinson’s Cup. [/p][p]Regards [/p][p]Charlie Appleyard [/p][p]Cure Parkinson’s Cup Organiser[/p][p][br][/p][p]We are a group of five people brought together by the fact that we all haveParkinson’s, live ‘broadly' near Cheltenham and are wanting to raise money for the Cure Parkinson’s charity whilst playing football at Worcester Warriors ground, Sixways.[/p][p]Simon Humberstone - my Parkinson’s was diagnosed in 2012, but now looking back I was demonstrating PD symptoms duing the years before that. [/p][p]In 2019 I underwent deep brain stimulation surgery in Oxford. The surgery went well and the results have changed my life hugely. Now I am in control of my Parkinson’s rather than vice versa.[/p][p]When I was asked by the surgeon if there was anything I wanted to do after the surgery, the answer was easy “I want to play a proper game of football”. The opportunity to play in the cure Parkinson’s club came along. How could I say no?[/p][p]The closest team to me was in Cheltenham, and so I have joined the Dopamne Deficient Dribblers (triple D) and the tournament awaits.[/p][p]Nici Khor - I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 7 years ago at 45 years old. Since then I have been doing my best to remain positive and try and combat the progress by improving my fitness through exercise, including: dance fitness, running and boxing.[/p][p]As for football. This is a first, having never played soccer before, but I'm willing to learn, have my boots and shin pads at the ready and hope I have the stamina to keep up. Endeavouring to find my inner Beckham (!) through training with the team over the next few weeks...Thank you all for supporting us all to find a cure for this complex, frustrating and disabling disease.[/p]
