Team story

[p]LEJOG '21[/p][p][br][/p][p]We are a group of six blokes from Norfolk who have decided to take up a once in a lifetime challenge before it all goes to pot. We will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in nine days.[/p][p][br][/p][p]The “Fellaton" is made up of:[/p][p][br][/p][p]Mike Bartlett[/p][p]Nick Gowing[/p][p]Richard Hirst[/p][p]Ed Masters[/p][p]Justin Morfoot[/p][p]Ed Wharton[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]The Challenge[/p][p][br][/p][p]Our plan is to tackle the trip in nine daily 100 mile sections - from 5th to 13th June. We’ll start at Great Britain’s southwesterly tip at Land’s End in Cornwall. As we turn our backs on the North Atlantic Ocean, get on our saddles and clip in to our pedals, we won’t have to turn back South for another 940 miles. The final stop on our trip will be John O’Groats, Great Britain’s northeastern tip.[/p][p][br][/p][p]Highlights of the trip will include:[/p][p][br][/p][p]Riding through the Cheddar Gorge[/p][p]Crossing the Severn Bridge[/p][p]Climbing Shap Fell[/p][p]The Cairngorns National Park[/p][p]Conquering Glenshee and the Lecht Ski Hill[/p][p][br][/p][p]By the end of the trip the wheels of each bicycle will have done 1,387,872 revolutions! It is a gruelling challenge with some days seeing an elevation gain of 8,000 ft. The total elevation gain along the whole route is 46,000 ft - 7,000 ft taller than Mount Everest! Needless to say we (as well as our bikes) will need a well earned rest by the end of the nine day cycle.[/p][p][br][/p][p]If you would like to follow our progress during LEJOG ‘21 please head over to The Fellaton’s Instagram page for regular updates: [/p][p]https://instagram.com/norfolk_fellaton?utm_medium=copy_link[/p][p][br][/p][p]We will be ably assisted by Tobin Lambert who will be driving the support vehicle in case of any punctures along the way. We are all very grateful that Tobin has volunteered as the challenge would not be possible without him.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]The Charities[/p][p][br][/p][p]We are raising money for five different charities that do vital work both in Norfolk and throughout the UK. Each charity will receive an equal amount of the final total that is raised. Your kind donations will be much appreciated; both by us and by the charities themselves.[/p][p][br][/p][p]We have included a short summary of the work that each charity does as well as a link to their homepages if you would like to read further.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]EACH (East Anglian Children’s Hospices)[/p][p][br][/p][p]EACH offers care and support for children and young people with life-threatening conditions as well as their families. Their services help children across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex.[/p][p]The charity delivers a range of services including care at end of life; emotional support including counselling, family events, day care and overnight breaks.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Muscular Dystrophy UK[/p][p][br][/p][p]Muscular Dystrophy UK supports high quality research to find effective treatments and cures for all muscle-wasting conditions.[/p][p]The charity supports faster access to NHS specialist care and treatments in the UK and provides services to help people live independently.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]MNDA (Motor Neurone Disease Association)[/p][p][br][/p][p]The MNDA focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by Motor Neurone Disease (MND) in the UK.[/p][p]The charity also funds key research into MND that aims to promote research into the causes, treatments and a cure for MND.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity[/p][p][br][/p][p]The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity raises money solely to support The Royal Marsden, a world-leading cancer centre.[/p][p]The charity supports life saving research and invests in state-of-the-art equipment, offering patients expert treatment and care.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]YANA (You Are Not Alone)[/p][p][br][/p][p]YANA offers specific help for those involved with farming or other rural business in Norfolk, Suffolk and Worcestershire.[/p][p]The charity’s work is focused on mental health, first aid training and suicide prevention.[/p][p][br][/p][p][br][/p][p]Sponsorship[/p][p][br][/p][p]We must also mention that we are very grateful for the sponsorship and support that we have received from Quinto Crane Hire and William Morfoot Ltd.[/p]

A late donate -ion! Well done to all involved, a monuments effort which I wouldn’t fancy attempting despite being several years your junior! Would like to especially support old man Hirst for keeping the pedals turning over the course of the challenge!
