Team story

[p]Hello Friends, we are Trekking to Angkor Wat Temple at Siam Reep in Cambodia. The trek is 94K in total over a period of five days to raise money for St Clare Hospice in Epping. Temperatures are expected to be in the late in the eighties and humidity will be high. Thankfully most of the terrain is reported to be flat! [/p][p]As many of you will know I currently chair the Board of Trustees at St Clare. St Clare provides a range of services to the entire community of West Essex free at the point of access. These services include Hospice at Home, Inpatient Beds, Clinical Nurse Specialists in the Community, Day Therapy, Patient and Family Support in the Hospice and the Community, Complimentary Therapies, Bereavement Support and Bereavement Cafe's in the Community.[/p][p]The services St Clare Hospice provides are free of charge to those living in West Essex and Inpatient’s are welcome from East and North Hertfordshire. With limited NHS funding, we need to raise most of the £4.6 million it costs each year to provide our vital services. [/p][p]In 2017/18, of every £1 spent, 87p went directly on care for our patients and their families. 13p went on generating funds and income. Our NHS funding covered 41% of our costs, meaning we had to raise £2.7m. This means we need to raise more than £7,000 every single day through voluntary funds.[/p][p]We are continually investing and improving our services and the ask gets greater every year. We are hugely lucky to have some fantastic fundraisers in our local community and local businesses. Ray and I felt that we could contribute to this ask whilst challenging ourselves in a new and exciting adventure. Hope you feel able to support your local Hospice in providing much needed services.[/p][p]Thank you from Ray and I and all at the Hospice. [/p]

Nice and flat and warm! As Ray knows I did the Great Wall 9 years ago for St Clare. Not flat, quite wet at times, but a wonderful experience. Enjoy the trip you two.
