Team story

[p]We, Thomas Bremner, Sandy Cunningham, John Duffin, Joel Duffin and Rodney MacConnochie make up "The Flying Fifers".[/p][p]Since 2012, we have raised over £50,000 for the very worthwhile and hard working, Poppy Scotland Charity.[/p][p]We have decided to enlist in "The 1918 Poppy Pledge", which is a year-long campaign to honour every member of the Armed Forces who fought in The Great War and in the many conflicts since. As well as paying tribute to Britain’s bravest, we hope The 1918 Poppy Pledge money raised will help Poppy Scotland continue supporting the Armed Forces community living in Scotland today.[/p][p]Our target amount is reflective of the five of us achieving the Pledge amount together as a team.[/p][p]Our main event will be the Cycle of Remembrance III. Having previously cycled from Leven in Fife, to the Menin Gate in 2012, then Mazingarbe and Thiepval in 2016, we will now embark on a cycle, again from Leven to Compiégne, France. This is where the Armistice that ended the fighting on land, sea and air in World War 1, was signed and came into force at 11am on 11th November 1918.[/p][p]On 30th June we will cycle from Leven to Edinburgh to take part in the Armed Forces Day Parade, before cycling towards Carlise, Penrith, Lancaster, Macclesfield and make our way to London, then to Dover- Calais, then cycle through France to Compiegne.[/p][p]We will also complete two 100 mile cycle sportive's. firstly, the Brewin Dolphin Ochil Hills 100 on 3rd June and then the excellent Poppy Scotland Sportive on 30th September.[/p][p]We will also be organising charity days, collection days and a charity run. This will be Sandy, John, Mark and Thomas running as a team against Harris (Mark's son), Lewis(Sandy's son) and Joel and Caelum (John's sons) in the Hairy Haggis Relay, I do believe it was Joel's idea to challenge the old boys!![/p][p]Thank you to everyone for their continued support, Steven Bone for helping in the past and Mark Young for taking part in other events apart from COR III, and let's hope 2018 is another successful year for us and more importantly for Poppy Scotland.[/p]
