My story

[p]My name is Sr Theo Hawksley CJ. I'm a Catholic sister of the Congregation of Jesus, and I'm fundraising for Jesuit Missions. I spent 7 months of 2017 in Guyana with the indigenous Amerindian people of Guyana's interior, working alongside Jesuits and Ursuline sisters, and supported by Jesuit Missions. [img][/img]Together, the Jesuits and Ursulines bring pastoral care to the whole region, covering incredibly remote areas and challenging territory. The Jesuits have been accompanying the Amerindian peoples of Guyana for over a century, helping to advocate for their rights on issues ranging from environmental degradation to education. [/p][p]I've seen first hand what amazing work Jesuit Missions enables in Guyana. From September–December last year, I worked on an education programme that will bring mother tongue bilingual education to Guyana for the first time, helping Amerindian people to preserve their culture and language, and get the education they need to become advocates for their own rights and agents of their own development.[/p][p]Jesuit Missions support this work. This support ranges from making sure that priests, sisters and programmes have essential supplies, to financially supporting education programmes, to commissioning research and reports on issues like the impact of mining on Amerindian communities. Without the Jesuits, the indigenous people of Guyana would have no priests or sisters; without Jesuit Missions, those priests and sisters would not be able to do the work they do.[/p][p]Please give generously![/p][p] [/p]
