[p]Hi, thanks for visiting my page. [/p][p]I am running my 5th Marathon at London for Hemihelp. Hemihelp is an organisation that supports children and young people with Hemiplegia and their families. Hemiplegia is a lifelong condition that is caused by an injury to the brain. Hemiplegia effects movement on one side of the body to a varying degree and also causes some less visible effects such as specific learning difficulties, epilepsy, anxiety or challenging behaviour. It effects 1 in every 1000 people. [/p] [p]My son has left sided Hemiplegia that was caused by an abnormal brain development before birth. His left arm is effected so that the grip of things is difficult. He has to wear a splint during the day and at night to help with function, to reduce stiffness and reduce pain. His left leg stiffness cause him some difficulty when walking or running, especially when tired. He can often wake at night time due to the stiffness and pain in his arm and leg. He has regular occupational therapy and physio. Despite this is he an active young lad who loves life and grasps every opportunity. He does not let his disability hold him back. [/p] [p]Hemihelp have helped us by offering support and advice. They have also helped my son's primary school in providing teaching resources, such as toys and stories that enable his classmates to understand the condition. They help the young people to live independently, find work experience and offer educational advice. Above all they raise awareness of this condition to ensure that society understand what this disability is all about.[/p] [p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p][p][/p]
