My story

[p]Hey[/p][p]Thank you for visiting my page. [/p][p]This is one of the hardest stories for me to tell.[/p][p]Cancer. The one word in life that always sends shivers down my spine, causes a lump in my throat to quickly form and raises the hairs on my arm. The one word you hope you will never hear but unfortunately is becoming more common. [/p][p]In October last year our world was turned upside down and shattered into a million pieces. I am still trying to pick up those million and one pieces and glue them back together with every form of sticky adhesive possible. [/p][p]My wonderful Dad became unwell, pretty much overnight, and deteriorated rapidly before he was diagnosed with Stage 3 Pancreatic Cancer some weeks later. [/p][p]Nothing in the world could have prepared me for that very moment or the subsequent journey that would follow. But here we are 10 months in and my Dad is still fighting every day, and let me tell you, this is not just any fight but the bravest battle I have seen anyone had to fight.[/p][p]Before my Dad became unwell I am ashamed to say I didn't even know the function of the Pancreas let alone what Pancreatic Cancer entailed.[/p][p]The statistics aren’t pretty – they’re hard hitting and gut wrenching but of vital importance.[/p][p]So here it goes..[/p][p]Pancreatic cancer is the deadliest common cancer. It has the lowest survival of all common cancers.[/p][p]Five year survival of Pancreatic cancer is less than 7%. [/p][p]The five year survival rate in the UK lags behind the rest of the world with the UK ranking 29thout of 33 countries with comparable data.[/p][p]Despite this, it has received less than 1% of total UK cancer research funding over the last decade.[/p][p]These statistics, in partnership with my Dad’s battle is the reason I am taking on the 26.2 mile London Marathon challenge.[/p][p]It is my absolute honour to have been given a place on the Pancreatic Cancer UK London Marathon 2020 team. [/p][p]I want to help. I want to do everything I possibly can to raise money to help fund the research necessary to aid the understanding of this disease and the best possible outcomes for fighting it. [/p][p]When I was a young child, I often used to think random thoughts such as if I ran that bit faster, or beat the person racing next to me, my parents will make it home safely that day. The reality is that is obviously not the case however, even though I can’t ensure my Dad is ok from running that bit faster, I can ensure I run with him at the forefront of my efforts to help in any way I can, to say thank you to this amazing charity.[/p][p]Little do they know, as much as I can’t wait to fundraise for them they are also helping me enormously, providing me focus, an outlet and regaining my purpose.[/p][p]I would be incredibly grateful if you could support me in this challenge and help fund the research we so desperately need to understand this disease further.[/p][p]Thank you for taking the time to read my page![/p][p]Have a wonderful day :)[/p]
