My story

[p]Thank you for visiting my page. I'd forgive you for thinking that you'd misread the challenge. It's not a typo, I'll be running the 100km from Fulham to Henley along the Thames with Jamie, my brother-in-law in September. Surely nobody would consider running 100km in one go? That's what I'd have thought a couple of years ago too.[/p][p]Having earned a charity place for the London Marathon in 2016, the experience had such an impact on me, I wanted to see what I could do to challenge myself even more. I'd always had the draw of 100km in my mind so this seemed like a perfect opportunity to dive in. [/p][p]What's more, to be able to push myself further than I ever could have imagined for Cancer Research UK seemed to be a perfect combination. As countless families in this country have been or are currently affected by cancer, and ours is no exception, there is no better organisation that I can think of for which I can do my part.[/p][p]It is easy to write about 100km, it sounds so tidy. To run it though? You could cross countries in less than that (Luxembourg for one, I checked!). I'm beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for.[/p][p]Another bit of information about me however, as anyone who knows me will be aware, I like to eat. If you read up on the challenge you'll soon see that lunch is provided at 28km, a 3 course dinner at 78km and a BBQ and glass of bubbly at 100km. I know what you're thinking - it's essentially an all inclusive mini-break, just with quite a distance between restaurants. That's the story I'm sticking with to help me through the training anyway. [/p][p]If you want to keep track of my suffering, I mean training, you're welcome to follow my blog:[/p][p]www.longruntom.wordpress.com[/p][p]What will help drive me on above all though is knowing that I'm doing this to help fund crucial research to help patients and families who aren't lucky enough to be able to compete in an event like this. Any donation, no matter how small, would help make a large difference.[/p][p]Many thanks again for visiting[/p][p]Tom [/p][p]Ps Below is me practising my smile during some training runs, one in particular when my legs have died after 35km, comforted in the knowledge I'll only have a other 65km to run in September![/p]
