My story

[p]Hi I'm Tomas Kirby and next year in April I'm going to be running the London Marathon for Mencap. As someone with a learning disability I think its important to highlight the challenges I and others face. The reason i have chosen to take my biggest challenge yet is to inspire others to get active because the experience running and sport ,hockey particularly, has impacted my life physically and mentally for the right reasons. Sport has given me my life back and given me a sense of belonging that i'd never thought i'd find. So the reason i am fundraising for Mencap is because i want other to have the same opportunity like me to get the support they deserve to get involved in sport.[/p][p]Thank you for reading and please see some more information about Mencap and learning disability below.[/p][p]Right now, people with a learning disability face inequalities in every area of life with almost 1 in 3 young people with a learning disability spending less than 1 hour outside their home on a typical Saturday. [/p][p]They face barriers finding a job, accessing activities in their local community and receiving good quality healthcare. We tackle these issues head on by providing support in a way that meets individual needs and encourages greater independence. [/p][p]We give expert advice and information that empowers people and their families. And we campaign relentlessly for changes that brings greater equality for people with a learning disability.[/p][p]By supporting Team Mencap you will be helping us to support people with a learning disability to live the life they choose, and do the things they love.[/p][p]And also raise money for All Move Schools Progamme[/p][p]Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor me and donations will be quickly processed and passed to Mencap. [/p][p]Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. [/p][p]I really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.[/p]
