My story

[p]Hi, [/p][p]I'm taking on another gruelling challenge for a charity that will always be very special to me - The Donna Louise. [/p][p]In May 2018, I'll be  part of a team of 12 tackling a gruelling, 4-day, non-stop challenge, travelling from the Eiffel Tower in Paris to Tower Bridge in London, by bike, boat and boots.[/p][p]The first leg is a 170 mile cycle, over 16 hours to the port of Le Havre where we get off our bikes and into a tiny wooden rowing boat and row 100 miles across the Channel to Brighton. This will take us anywehere between 36 and 40 hours, rowing 2hrs on, 2hrs off in shifts so the boat is constantly moving. Once in Brighton, we make our way to London, where we finish, 60 miles and 24hrs later. All this is being done non-stop, day and night, without stopping overnight to sleep and recharge our batteries.[/p][p]Tower to Tower aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by children and young people with shortened life expectancy and their families, including severe sleep deprivation. Many children and young people with life threatening conditions require round-the-clock care and sleep can become a challenge for the parents and carers who look after them.[/p][p]The Donna Louise provides a vital helping hand in the form of respite stays so that families can get the rest they desperately need, safe in the knowledge that their child is well cared for.[/p][p]During this challenge, we will be facing severe fatigue and sleep deprivation in an attempt to raise awareness of how hard it is to function physically, emotionally and psychologically on limited sleep. In addition, they will be dealing with sea sickness, rough seas, blisters, and aching muscles – for 4 very, very long days.[/p][p]Together we aim to raise £100,000 to support the work of Nurses at the Hospice who can provide specialist care and support and ensure they get the vital respite care they need.[/p][p]I would like to thank you for any donation you can make - big or small. It all means a lot to me and to the children, young adults and families at The Donna Louise that you'll be helping.[/p][p]Thank you[/p][p]Tony[/p]
