Team story

[p]Between Saturday 5th May and Friday 11th May (just two weeks after the London Marathon), seven employees from Fraikin UK will cycle over 750 miles visiting all Fraikin site locations starting at Bellshill near Glasgow, via Warrington, Birmingham, Northampton, our three London sites at Enfield Harrow and Iver, west to Bristol, before they finally conclude their endeavours by riding to corporate HQ in Coventry.[/p][p]The event is part of a charity initiative which celebrates 40 years in business in the UK for Fraikin, which opened for business back in 1978. The staff collectively aim to raise a minimum of £40,000 for a variety of charities and good causes during 2018, and this particular event will specifically raise funds for Parkinson’s UK, as one of the riders suffers from this currently incurable illness.[/p][p]Every hour, two people in the UK are told they have Parkinson's. Parkinson’s is a progressive brain condition that turns lives upside down, leaving a future full of uncertainty. Parkinson’s UK are the support and research charity who are leading the way to find a cure, and they’re closer than ever. They also campaign to change attitudes and demand better services. Your support will make a real difference to people affected by Parkinson’s.[/p][p]£30 could fund the Parkinson's UK Brain Bank for an hour, supporting researchers in the UK and around the world in their mission to find a cure for Parkinson's.[/p][p]£170 could fund a clinical researcher for a day, allowing new Parkinson’s treatments to be tested and better diagnostic techniques to be developed.[/p][p]£500 could fund a MRI brain scan for an hour, to help our researchers learn more about the Parkinson’s brain.[/p][p]£660 could pay for a person with Parkinson’s and their partner or carer to attend a six-session self-management group, so they can share experiences and discuss the practical and emotional impact of Parkinson’s.[/p][p]We would be grateful of any amount you can spare to help us achieve our event target of £1500. We also would appreciate any help towards the costs of the event: sponsorship, accommodation, meals - please contact one of the team direct if this is your preference. The more money we raise, the more Parkinson's UK will be able to support people living with this degenerative condition.[/p][p]The route is as follows:[/p][p]5th May, Fraikin Bellshill to Penrith[/p][p]6th May, Penrith to Fraikin Warrington[/p][p]7th May, Fraikin Warrington, via Fraikin Oldbury to Fraikin Birmingham[/p][p]8th May, Fraikin Birmingham, via Fraikin Northampton to Fraikin Enfield[/p][p]9th May, Fraikin Enfield, via Fraikin Harrow and Fraikin Iver, to Newbury[/p][p]10th May, Newbury, via Fraikin Bristol, to Stroud[/p][p]11th May, Stroud to Fraikin UK HQ in Coventry[/p][p]That’s over 750 miles even before any navigation issues!![/p][p][br][/p][p]The "Boys on Tour" are:[/p][p]Jamie Elkington[/p][p]Colin Garrett[/p][p]Andy Hobbs[/p][p]Martin Morris[/p][p]John Penny[/p][p]Gary Smith[/p][p]Phil Wilkes[/p]
