Team story

[p]Vanessa and Jocelyn (Vanessa’s god-daughter) are both taking part in the 2020 ‘at home’ London Marathon on Sunday 4th October….it is still 26.2 miles but based from your home area! [/p][p]2020, due to COVID-19, has brought hardship for so many. The Charitable sector has been hit so very badly as for most charities about 95% of their annual fund-raising events have been cancelled or postponed. [/p][p]Vanessa and Jocelyn had places in the April 2020 London Marathon. At the time it was postponed, the organisers agreed that there would be an ‘at home’ event to raise money for Charities, with the elite race still being staged in London. Despite many changes due to the changing government restrictions, we are now able to go ahead on Sunday 4th October. The 26.2 miles must be completed on Sunday and this is being measured by the organisers, via an App. The weather is destined to be very very wet![/p][p]We both would very much appreciate if you would sponsor us to raise funds for two excellent Charities; the Cure Parkinson’s Trust and MapAction. Vanessa is fortunate enough to be a Patron of both Charities and Jocelyn also has a connection to MapAction. [/p][p]The Cure Parkinson’s Trust is the only charity in the UK solely committed to funding innovative research to stop, slow or reverse Parkinson’s. It is estimated than 1 in 37 people will receive a Parkinson’s diagnosis in their lifetime. The goal of the Cure Parkinson’s Trust is to discover treatments that change the way the disease progresses and transforms the lives of those who live with Parkinson's. Their ongoing research includes the International Linked Clinical Trials programme, which fast-tracks and prioritises existing drugs with the potential to be repurposed to make a difference in Parkinson’s. [/p][p]The work of MapAction is vital in the aftermath of a disaster. Maps are crucial to help make rapid sense of the chaos and plan the best response to save lives, minimise suffering and reduce long-term impacts. Without information about what’s happening on the ground, aid-givers can be blindfolded. MapAction works across the globe to ensure disaster response teams have access to the maps and data they need whenever they’re needed. As well as helping to prepare for emergencies before they happen, its team of expert volunteers is ready to respond to disasters in-country or remotely, anywhere in the world and at very short notice, to provide life-saving maps, data and humanitarian information management expertise. [/p][p]So far in 2020, MapAction’s emergency response services have been called on 25 times at a global, regional and national level.[/p][p]Thank you from us both for your support for these important Charities.
