My story

[p]On the 18th of April I will be shaving my head to raise money for the charity Mankind Initiative. During this COVID-19 crisis so many domestic abuse victims (men, women and children) are forced to stay in isolation with their abusers. Now more than ever they need our support. I've decided to isolate my funding for men as I believe the small amount I can donate will have a greater impact for this charity than it will for a larger women's/children's charity. [/p][p]For every three victims of domestic abuse, two will be female, one will be male.[/p][p]In 17/18, 11% of male victims of partner abuse had tried to take their own lives. A large reasoning for this is how little men feel they can talk about this. Nearly half (49%) of all male victims fail to tell anyone they are a victim of domestic abuse. Men are nearly three times less likely to tell anyone than a female victim.[/p][p]Mankind's aim is to ensure all male victims of domestic abuse (and their children) are supported to enable them to escape from the situation they are in. [/p][p]The recognition and support for male victims of domestic abuse is vital in integrating a mainstreamed view of male domestic abuse into society and in the delivery of domestic abuse services.[/p][p]Mankind currently receive no funding for their helpline from trusts or grant-making bodies so rely on the kind generosity of the public to provide this vital service.[/p][p]The difference between the prevalence of domestic abuse for men and women is at its lowest since the year ending March 2005....Lets keep lowering this difference by raising awareness and helping men have a voice![/p]

Well done Verity. It’s an amazing thing you have done. Men don’t mind shaving their head but for a woman to do it, takes great courage and indicates you are very passionate about your cause. Bev Watson
