Team story

[p]We set up the charity Vision of Adventure in October 2018, in response to the closure of the Spirit of Adventure project which Jill had run for 8 years at The Bendrigg Trust. Less than a year on we will line up in London with a team of 15 tandems (each one with a visually impaired stoker and sighted pilot) to ride the 56 miles to Brighton.[/p][p]Some of the team are seasoned cyclists, others have had to train hard to make the distance. Some of the pilots had never ridden a tandem before this years training and some of the stokers had never ridden outside a gym before. [/p][p]This first year running Vision of Adventure has been HARD but also amazing! We are delighted to have been able to offer 15 courses and events. We have caved, climbed, cycled, swum, scrambled, ran and sailed with so many delightful, visually impaired adults. We have welcomed back many of our regular hardworking guides and have also met new people who have slotted seamlessly into the courses.[/p][p]We have supported people to British Championship Podium places (triathlon) and given people their first taste of activities such as rock climbing. We have watched people do things they thought they couldn't, redo things they loved, laughed till we cried and eaten a mountain of cake.[/p][p]We have also done hundreds of unpaid hours of admin, shifted tons of equipment, maintained 9 tandems, written hundreds of grant applications and had dozens of sleepless nights stressing and worrying about everything................![/p][p]Those who know us will think that cycling 56 miles should not be that big a deal for us. You are right that should be the easy bit, it's just getting 15 tandems, ourselves and 28 other people to the start that is a huge challenge!![/p][p]Our dream is to make Vision of Adventure secure for the future. Your donation will help.[/p]
