My story

[p]Well here goes peeps! In these strange times we've had more moments to be reflective and think beyond our given norm of daily life. I felt that I needed to challenge myself, something that would make me have to dig hard to prepare for and be totally out of my comfort zone. Yes, I know I have a sporty background... BUT back to back games, sprinting up and down pitches or busting my cardio rate on a punchbag do NOT equate to hammering through 13.1 miles!! Why do this you ask?[/p][p]Some of you know that my Dad has been suffering from Parkinson's for over a decade now. He has been my sporting inspiration and we always shared a passion for all sports and to be honest, it has been the place where I feel most happy. We're both very similar in a sports nature but there was one area we did not align....long distance running. Dad used to be a GOOD runner, he did a fair few marathons and ran not only for fitness, but clocked hundreds of miles gathering his thoughts. He tried to take me with him as a teenager but I would start whingeing after about 50 strides..(rolling eyes) just couldn't find the zone, he kept on about a 'second wind' I genuinely couldn't even find the first puff of air, let alone a second..which caused me to walk back whilst he went on, mile after mile.[/p][p]Fast forward 30 years and I'm tackling this demon head on..I watch Dad with his glass half full attitude, struggling with a debilitating, incurable disease and think what can I do..feel so powerless and angry that Dad has to suffer. [/p][p]I have put my support behind The Cure Parkinson's Trust to grind my way through the Royal Parks Half Marathon on April 11th. We need to find a cure for this cruel disease and back the scientists to work their magic in doing so...even now, the research is limited and patients have to work out their own medication on an individual basis![/p][p]I'll have my Dad's motto ringing in my ears 'You'll be alright'..I will make it round so he can finally say 'I always knew you could'.... So please...help me chew through those miles as every penny counts.[/p][p]*Now being run virtually due to Covid, so please be my crowd to cheer me on!*[/p][p][/p]
