Team story

[p]Hi,[/p][p]Thank you for stopping at our fundraising page for Wawne Riders. [/p][p]We are raising money for Children with Cancer UK, 2 words that should never be heard together, Children and Cancer.[/p][p]Our team consists of Antony and Paul. Best friends who are trying to make a difference to those who need it the most.[/p][p]Some of you will know "Antony" as a runner, not a particularly fast runner but a runner all the same that has pushed his body to the limit to complete the London Marathon twice, raising thousands of pounds for charity.[/p][p]Paul is a keen cyclist and you can write on the back of a stamp what he doesn't know about bikes. A sportive master with several 100+ rides under his belt (in his younger years) and more recently completing Coast 2 Coast. [/p][p]Over the last few months both Antony and Paul was taking life easy with a few well deserved months off training and after a few to many extra pounds added we are back to training and fundraising for our next challenge - The Prudential Ride London 100, 100 miles through London and the Surrey hills.[/p][p]Ride London is a grueling 100 mile road course with over 4000ft of hills, that's over a mile straight up! With an anticipated course completion in around 7-8 hours I best get training. [/p][p]We have both chosen to ride for Children with Cancer for the same reason, we both have young children and the thought of a child struggling with invasive Cancer treatment is a horrendous and chilling thought. We are all thrilled to be part of the Children with Cancer UK cycling team in 2020.[/p][p]So why the heck are we doing this?[/p][p]We are doing it to raise money for Children with Cancer UK, you can read more about what they do further down.[/p][p][Antony][/p][p]With the 2019 Marathon completed, I needed a challenge that will push me to my limits and away from my comfort zone, bring on the "London Classics". A Triathlon of-sorts - The London Marathon, Ride London 100 and Swim Serpentine. [/p][p]With 1/3 completed I am going to go all in to conquer London and raise as much money as I can for a superb charity. [/p][p][Paul][/p][p]What Antony said but I'm a marathon behind and some catching up needed.[/p][p]Your support is always so gratefully received and anything you can donate really is amazing and I’ll dig deep to finish this amazing challenge and bring home the bling.[/p][p]Why am I supporting Children with Cancer UK?[/p][p]Every day 12 families in the UK receive the devastating news that their child has cancer. Through funding vital specialist research, Children with Cancer UK has done everything in its power to give these children the best chance to survive. [/p][p]With your support Children with Cancer UK can fund over 60 research projects across the UK accelerating breakthroughs to help drive up childhood cancer survival rates and find kinder, more effective treatments to reduce long-term side effects. This ground breaking research saves children's lives and would otherwise go unfunded. [/p][p]Knowing treatment can be especially challenging for family life, Children with Cancer UK also helps fund patient family accommodation near hospitals so families can stay together during their children's treatment. We also organise unforgettable days out for children and their families to create memories that will never be lost. [/p][p]But we still have so much more to do. A single child dying from cancer is one too many. With your support, we are helping to create a future in which every child with cancer survives and experiences the life changing moment when they ring the end of treatment bell.[/p][p]Thank you for helping to save the lives of children with cancer and keep families together.[/p]
